Zone blocking take 2;
« on: October 8, 2003 01:49 am CDT »
Perhaps a zonecheck script could be impelemented that packs up tents that are deployed into a specific kind of area on a zone check.

The area could be similar to the sleep type zone, but every 10-15 seconds it would do a zone check and would unpack any tent that was in that zone OR alternately delete the "tent" object all together thus costing the rule-breaker a tent. ;-)

Just throwing out an idea here... I am determined at finding a solution to the tent-blocking crap. :-)

adios!

Or, just simply make the triggers wide enough so a tent can't cover it..  :roll:

Lidge, although your idea is sound, people would have to pay 5k each time they wanted to regen while in uber since that check would stop people from putting the tent in the little unknown area in UBER =/

Ahh, yes, but in that case, just put it on the spot where you have to set the tent to cause problems.

I like your idea newbie but it again has the same problem as mine; tents wouldn't be available for people to use to heal up if that area was blokced out.

In truth, I don't know the actual size of the uber zone, but if it could be shifted with out requireing a whole new map download, I would say to go for that, or even just move the telport spot down to inside uber zone.  I don't actually know if that would require a new map download or not, though I suspect that a script could e written which could delte the tele-out spot in the top of uber, and then replace it down into uber farther... possibly avoiding the tent blocking problem.

Like I said... I'll keep throwing out ideas until this problem can be worked on ;-)

Or, you could all bow down to the godly powers of Rangers and don't use tents.  :twisted:

Yeah... the best solution is to have designated sleep zones just outside of all fighting zones (with pre-setup looking tents called camps oof something) and do away with the tent item completely.. but that would take away from a bit of the player fun and creativity in deploying groups of tents in the middle of no where ;-)

Still... I want to find a solution that works for everyone and prevents zone-blocking. :-)

or have a tent.. that you can simple walk right threw it.. bu is able to use it..
or just make a tent there take out buying tents.. and let that tent in a Uber/any battle place have a sleep zone.. thats what i would do..

You must not understand what triggers are..  :P

When you go through a teleportal there has to be somthing that causes you to spawn at the other location.

When you run through the Uber entrance trigger (teleporter) it teleports you into Uber..

This is the size of the Uber teleport trigger in RPGmap5.

      instant SimGroup "uber teleport in" {
         instant SimGroup "Input" {
            instant Trigger "GroupTrigger1" {
               dataBlock = "GroupTrigger";
               name = "";
               position = "-616.5 -2479.75 57.4566";
               rotation = "0 -0 0.819811";
               boundingBox = "-1 -1 -1 1 1 1";
isSphere = "True";

If you simply increased the size of the trigger then the tent wouldn't be able to cover it.

I thought you could block triggers with enough tents?  I probably am wrong though as I never did modify or play with triggers. :-)

Generals idea would probably work, but it would look kinda stupid. :-p

With enough tents yeah,  but that would require two people rather than one.. atleast it would make things easier..

malarkey, I see what you guys are talking about. You aren't talking about blocking the teleportal.

You're talking about how people set up tents INSIDE of Uber!

Doh! >_<

Well... both actually :-)

Tents blocking the portal and tents blocking the tunnel.

Well, in the case of blocking the portal.. then I think my idea should work for the most part.

As for blocking the tunnel (Not just Uber).. there is no other way to stop it unless you take out tents completely.

hmm... is there a way the actual uber zone can just be made bigger with out requring a new map donwload?  ie; modify the zone edge in the .mis file?  Because it's not changing the mission lighting I think that might work.  :-)

Move the zone?
Why not move the Teleporter to inside Uber. You could still have the unkown zone there for tents, but no one could block it with a tent. It would be as easy to move where it teleports you in as to make the zone larger. Just find a spot were you don't teleport within striking distance of an uber. I always hated tele'ing to minos and almost dieing becuase someone lead it to the entrance...

Edit: Yes, it can be done without a download.  On Uber
( "instant Marker "310 420 800 0" ) you would just make 800 a bigger number to make the zone taller.
