Tough Riddle...Who can figure it out??
« on: May 30, 2003 03:00 pm CDT »
You see before you two doors, one of them leads to freedom, the other to certain death. There is a guard for each door, one of them always lies, the other always tells the truth. You know not which is which. You may ask ONE yes or no question. What question do you ask to discover the door to freedom?

Keep in mind you're trying to find the Door to Freedom, not the liar, and that you don't know if the liar guards the door to Freedom or to Doom.

I don't know the answer, so don't ask, that's what I'm lookin for lol.

You're going to be dissapointed by the answer, I don't exactly remember it, but it was really stupid. =\

Actually.. the riddle is supposed to be you can ask each guard 1 question..

The answer would be.. You ask one what the other guard would day wich door is not freedom.. Ask the other guard the same question..

The liar would say that the truthfull guard would say that the  non-freedom door

The truthful guy would say it is the non-freedom door.. So you just walk into the opposite door.

Ask him this:  "What will the other guard tell me if I ask him which door leads to freedom?"

Ok, for you to understand this, we will say door A is the one to freedom, and door b is the one to death.

1. if you ask the liar, he'll say door B..  he knows the honest guard is honest and would reply door A,  but he lies because he always tells a lie

2. if you ask the honest person, he'll reply door B (death) since he knows the liar would tell a lie and would reply door B.

SO, you always take the door opposite of whatever the guard says.

No UG, you only need to ask one of them..  they will both always say the same thing, so you only need to ask one :)

You're late ;)

No.. You don't know which one is the liar..

So if you ask the liar.. He will tell you that the other guard would pick door b.. You don't know that he is the liar though..

It doesn't make much of a difference really.

The riddle is ages old..

And the origional had you asking the same question to each one.

UG, you don't have to know!  You can ask either and they will both reply with the same answer..

IF you ask the liar:  The liar knows that the honest one will say the door to freedom, but he lies to you and says the one to death.

IF you ask the honest one: The honest one KNOWS the liar will tell a lie, so he also tells you the door that leads to death..   they both say the same door!

So naturally, you realize that both of them will answer the same, andyou take the door opposite of whatever the guard you ask tells you.

If the original said you could ask each a question, then it was easier than the current one o_O

Yea, but in this situation.. the honest one is being honest still.  Consider the question:

"If I ask the other guard which door leads to freedom, what will he say?"

The honest one knows the other will tell a lie, so he tells him what the guard will say; a lie.

I know the riddle says one yes or no question, so you could ask a guard this:

"If I ask the other guard if this door is the door to freedom, what will he say?"

So both of their answers will be yes or no..  if it is yes then thats not the door to freedom;  if it is no, then that door IS the door to freedom.

Ok take this into consideration:
The Quantum barrier breaks through and you don't know which door is the door that actually leads to the right path.
