Title: Popup malarkey
Post by: Jonah on June 8, 2004 03:17 pm CDT
Ok, so every few minutes I'll get one of these: (http://http://www.linneberg.com/rpgpics/untitled.JPG)

Or something similar to that.

I wont even have Internet Explorer open, and this is getting really annoying while playing CS.

I've run adaware (updated) and SpyBot about 20 times each. It hasn't gotten rid of the problem.

Anybody know a way to stop them?

Goto google.com and get the new google bar.  It has popup blocking capabilities.

Well Gnight I see you updated your browser to MSIE 6 recently, that's a good start... try Ad-Aware (http://http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware)

It's funny how gnight can have all of these problems and then argue with me about Taurik's signature not being what it is.

Just because spybot or ad-aware doesn't pick up anything doesn't mean you don't have spyware.

You should check all currently running processes. Check the run folder in your registry and check msconfig.

if push comes to shove, if you seriously know what you are doing, search through all files in your windows folder and anything that shouldn't be there or looks like it doesn't belong.  and i say this with a huge truckload of caution, do not attempt this if you are a nub with no experience with windows.

this has always worked for me.

Well, I updated spybot and adaware, and ran those both yesterday (because I had a malarkeyload of stuff that just got on my comp somehow) and now it's all gone.

Make sure if spybot or adaware says that it couldn't delete some stuff because it was currently in use, you click yes to let it run on the next startup.  Then, restart right after that..  existing spyware and stuff has the ability to load more when you go to certain sites, so you want to get rid of all of it at once.

500 was the most objects I've ever seen, from someone's HP Pavilion that I had to work on. The system was SO unstable that the Ad-Aware installer wouldn't even run, I had to install Win2k first. Amazing that 2k can install properly on a machine so messed up that IE won't even start :P

Want to tell any more lies celtic?

If there were 50k viruses, you wouldn't even be able to get to access anything on the hd, let alone install norton.

ozzy shut your big mouth, you must have just graduated from 15 years from "know-it-all-college"! I seen this thing with my own eyes.  These little virus's were only 3 KB's each, he was getting them thought kazza or something, Stop fuking pretending your smart, because half the time you talk malarkey anyway!

Ok then my idiotic Irish waste of life.

Create a list of 50000 different kinds of vii with none of them corrupting the bios, MBR, or key Windows files.

Guess what... You can't!

Don't even start by saying that there was multiples of 1 type of virus because that isn't possible... You can only have 1 type of virus. To even be classified as a virus it must be able to replicate itself.

Of course you would know this already since you are smart enough to overclock a client's computer without that client's consent.

By the way, if i'm such a waste of space, why do you continue to post after mine, doesn't that make you an even bigger loser?
