Title: Storm Pictures!
Post by: Particle on April 24, 2003 08:51 pm CDT
Do you like pics of storms?  I took 15 snaps of a storm today, and even though I missed the shots I wanted by about two minutes, they turned out to be good.

Tell me what you think.

The originals were 1600x1200, too.

It's an ancient camera--Polaroid PDC3000.

I'm not really criticizing you, but you reminded me of a skit on Family Guy.  That made me think about when they were in the police statement congratulating the dog for finding all the drugs (he was an official drug dog).  There were three standing behind him and the first said something like "Hey!  Good work!", the second "Wow, good job.", and the third added "Another generic compliment!"

That's one of my favorite scenes.

If I had a camera on me I would have shot photos of the 6 inches of hail my town got last sunday

That is one of those roof thingies that keeps the attic cool.

Those clouds remind me of when we get bad weather here in Texas.
Oh, and it is tornado season, so I hope to get you guys some pics of a good 'ol Texas tornado :).

Oh, and another generic compliment on your car too.. hehe

Post by: Particle on April 26, 2003 09:49 am CDT
Jason's right, it spins when the air's hot or blowing and helps ventilate the attic.  That's the roof of the garage, mind you.

You can't deny the Kansas Tornado either.  In fact, we had an F4 do some damage in downtown Parsons in 1999.
Title:
Post by: UnderGod on April 26, 2003 12:09 pm CDT
Tornado... The only thing Ozzy are scared of... Because Ozzy doesn't blow like the tornado does.

I had a friend who used to live in Michigan (I think it was michigan). They had a f4 come through.. Needless to say he will be terrified of them for the rest of his life.

I am very facinated with Tornados, Lightning.. all those deadly things. Not because they are deadly, it is just facinating how they work.

I guess I am the type of person who would secure myself on the ground and let a tornado roll over me. Just to see what it is like on the inside.

Well, if it was coming at it at its blunt side, i dont think it would do that much harm.  If it came at you on its edged side, owie.  I beleive a hard punch travels at that speed.

One of my father's friends was going to smash a brick against a mailbox when he was a teen.  He stuck his hand out the car window ready to let the brick sail right into the mailbox, but he let go too late, and the hand smashed right into the mailbox -- with the brick in the hand -- while going around 70 mph.

I recieved a forwarded e-mail about this sort of thing.  I'll forward it to anyone that wants to hear it.

You call those storm pics?  Why, on the day before easter we had quite turbulent wind, and even hail.  Size of golfballs.  My neighbors have 4 jeeps they keep outside all the time, and the windsheilds are all cracked up.

When it storms here, the sky turns entirely black, and sometimes outside it looks dark as midnight even in the middle of the afternoon.  Cool stuff to watch.

I was just surfing the forums, messing with my digital camera, and I heard some rain.. so I thought I'd take some pictures

Pshh, that's ^ probablly the most mild storm we've had the whole year.
I mean the sun's out while it's raining....

Oh how I wish I had my flood pictures, there was large scale flooding and it completely covered the large tractors near a construction area..

It was pretty neat, you could see the large tractors claw poking up out of the water.

We get some of the craziest weather in memphis.  The missisippi river really makes it tough sometimes.  Also we barely get any snow, like maybe a couple inches, while other places N,S,E,&W of us get like 4-12 inches.

UGH, and when it rains during the summer, a day later the humidity is wayyy to high to try and do anything.

Once the scroll button come scrollin back scroll button come to ya like a heart attack!

I dont understand why manufacturers even decided to include a turbo button.  I remember on my old 486, it had an led thing on the front, press the turbo and the number would go from like 22-44.  Doom ran faster, I think.  Hard to tell since I was already used to the bleep noises the comp made (had no sound card).
Title:
Post by: Jason_Xero on April 29, 2003 08:34 pm CDT
Actually the "Turbo" made it run slower.  I can't remember what exactly it does, but it makes the CPU slower.

I remember my 386 was so slow that when I played Wolf3d, I would know when there would be nazis in the next room because my hard drive light would load up. lol... the good ol' days.

A lot of games were based on clock cycles and didn't run right with faster computers.  Load up Descent 1 if you want to know what I'm talking about.  Turbo made it run slower so the games would work correctly.
Title:
Post by: Darwin on April 29, 2003 10:14 pm CDT
So that LED display was the actual clock speed at the time.  Hmm, so Im guessing that MMX technology helped to keep it where the game would run at the right clock speed, right?

I know, it makes me feel so insecure because the house I live in is really old... and small.  Same with lightning.  I bet if lightning struck anywhere around my house, somehow, I would get hit by it because my house is so small.  What reminds me of that is when it was about 4 days ago and we had some midnight thunderstorms just pop up on radar.  All the sudden I start hearing thunder, then the lightning comes about 10 minutes later.  I'm all fine and everything, when I notice I felt a little tingly feeling on the hairs on my leg.  Then it wasn't more than a second later,  KABAAM!! Lightning struck right outside and scared the bejesus out of me.  And believe me, you know when lightning strikes beside you because it makes a weird kinda "fry" electrical sound.  If you ever played Tribes 2 and listened to that sound, it sounds exactly like it, except 10x more creepy in real life.

I live near Arkansas.  Everytime a tornado rips through a trailer park, I feel like I want to slap myself on the forehead and mutter "stupid people"...   Then I have to see some redneck chick with an underbite and a little hair on her face explain what went down.

I got a "nader" story.  I was in Nashville visiting my relatives for the week.  My uncle works in music and stuff, so he lives life to the fullest.  One day a big storm came, and a tornado ripped through Downtown Nashville (thats something you dont hear everyday, a tornado moving through downtown), but it happened.  He and I go outside to watch it.  It looked like it was within a mile of us, and I was so freakin scared, but he started to film it, laughing.  Then a table umbrella did a Mary Poppins on us and flew forward and hit him in the stomach.  *sigh*, he wasnt laughing then.

We had a tornado go through downtown Fort Worth last year, the same storm that produced another tornado that was 5 miles from my house.

Several storms just ravaged through the midwest and through my area.  Hope particle is ok.

The tornadoes in my area struck Jackson, TN and Nashville, TN.  I have family in both cities, but they are ok.  One of them was like a mile away from a tornado, and had to spend an hour in a drainage ditch as the tornado passed.

For once the storms missed us.  They hit our neighbors to the east though (meaning Missouri) pretty hard.  There's a lot of injuries and some unconfirmed fatalities.

Dude. this is freakin awesome!  Im gonna get up on my roof and watch this!

Don't get struck by lightning!

Here at NC, the sky has turned yellow a couple of times before severe weather.

This is right after severe weather.  My 110 pound lab was shaking for a few hours after a lightening bolt landed in the middle of our backyard.  It really freaked him out, but I dont think he got struck.

*edit*
That wasnt from today, but from about a month ago.

Darwin, use a normal camera. Then, develop the pictures, get them on CD, and post.

Too late.  That scene was a moment for photos.  Too bad I left my netcam at home.  I can get a megapixel on it.

That's what I was driving at.  You have to understand that in Kansas, Storm equates to Rain and Rain equates to Storm.  One's rarely without the other around here; sorry for the misconception.

I was going through my backup files, and I found these pictures of this past Winter's ice storm. It was purely ice, it downed 6 trees in my yard, and my power was out for almost a week.. also my family lives on a large hill, so we couldn't go anywhere for the first couple of days.
It was 100% pure ice, there was no snow at all.

Thats not as bad as the one we had in 1994.  Think of a tree wrapped in saran wrap.  That was how our ice storm was.  The only utilities we had for two weeks were gas and water.  No electricity since trees kept falling on the lines.  Heh, and there was like an inch of ice covering the roads.

That picture was over four days after..  the ice was thick on the roads and on the trees, I just didn't get around to taking pictures til later.

Had an ice storm around here too, about 1-2 years ago.  There was up to an inch of ice on stuff in places (typical was probably about 1/2" to 5/8").

I am in a pretty big storm right now.  I was watching the Matrix: Reloaded at a new theater when the sirens went off, and we all just thought it was part of the movie, for the first 15 minutes.  My friends phone (on silent) was buzzing like crazy, and when he picked up, he was pretty quick to tell us we had to go.

Lots of funnels were over memphis.

In the car, we were hitting 80 on 40-50mph roads.  When he made a turn in the jeep, we did really cool powerslides.  In fact, we almost hit his mailbox while coming in.

Well, the sirens just quit going off.  Darwin is left unscathed.

Man, you all got it bad. Here are weather never gets that bad. Actually if they see ice on the roads they close school down which is plus for me. That's what happen this winter and we were out for about a week 1/2. This is exactly why I'm moving somewhere where the snow does last that long and it's hot mostly year around. Like maybe Florida. California is just too expensive to live in.

Son and father lock in a battle of wits and war seeing who is the strongest. You know what that reminds me of? Starwars, Luke and DarthVader.
