Easy enough to work around. Just write down your favorite servers' IPs and use connect("IP:port"); or register yourself with the community driven master server. There have been a couple, I'll post when I get more information about them.

I have learned that Zed's master server is no more.  He dropped it quite some time ago.

Anyhow, I'm operating one if people wish to use it.

This presents a serious problem for newbies.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

This gives imperative need for open-sourcing of code an even greater weight.

Perhaps some one could make a real petition page for people to print out, sign and mail to the Sierra office(s) responsible?

I would not know where to send such things, though I would gladly send one.

Maybe even send a couple bucks if that would help release the code..!

If I believed that petitions ever helped any cause in the history of forever, I might support such a measure.

Only petition I ever signed got me called into the principals office. I believe it was a petition to stop someone from being such an idiot, or something along those lines.

I'm pretty sure we should sign a petition stating that we don't let every retard with half a brain start their own master server..

Unfortunately, it appears almost every "retard with half a brain" is doing this already.

Alternately, particle could re-pack the version he hosts with his own connection address information in the config files to begin with.  He could host the "TRPG master server" or something.  Who knows?  You can list multiple masters in the config files, anyway..

uhh.. *skitters away*

That idea has crossed my mind before, but I'm still not sure what solution would be best yet.
