There seems to be a lot of places selling that game. Either somebody else made an RPG mod for Tribes and just had the poor luck to name it "Tribes RPG", or somebody is trying to market JI's work.
Possibly TRPG as we know of it was developed after this one in the store.
-
Its in Europe, isnt it legal to do that there?
-
I read through the site. It is some different game named Tribes.
-
Ok, I sent off an email to the store and they told me it's not the same. Here's the info (technically, JI can't really use the Tribes RPG name as it's (c) 1998 by this company).

I think we are probably talking about different games.
The Tribes RPG that we stock is published by an American company called Steve Jackson Games and was designed by David Brin and Steve Jackson (copyright 1998). It's only a small game that is a sort of cross-between an actaual RPG and a boardgame.
Best wishes and thanks for the info (I'll take a look at the link you sent us later),

Actually TRPG did come out in 98 I believe..
Yes I think it was the summer of 98.. I don't know it has been a long time.
So if TRPG came out before it, then they can't copywrite it..
But JI isn't selling it, because you can't sell a mod of a game without Sierra getting a big chunk out of it (It wouldn't be worth much anyway).
Not to mention everything would have to be encrypted so noone could make changes like us.
-
It's commercialized, they'd win. Period.
-
So, does this mean we have to call this Starsiege: Tribes RPG? Or how about: RPG mod. Or maybe: Superdarwin RPG?
-
How about we continute to call it TRPG or Tribes RPG. The Tribes in each title means different things.
-
Yes the title of the game is not Tribes.... It is Starsiege: Tribes..
Only Tribes 2 is just Tribes...
And frankly... That isn't much money they are selling it for.
-
So I guess if those developers of that game decide to come out with a sequel, they would have to be a little more creative with their name.
-
Seeing as Sierra owns the name "Tribes 2" I guess they would. But, I doubt that game will have a sequal.
-
I am playing JDoom right now, and it is so forking awesome. It renders the doom .wad files in OpenGL or D3D, and you can also download model and weapons packs that make the game completely 3D. Tonight I'm going to reach a level where I fight a Cyberdemon to see how it looks.
-
Quake looks cool now:

-
Wow, those were some nice particle/fog effects. So, what program is that that renders Quake?
*edit*
Is it me, or do the plates on the floor look bumpmapped?
-
Looks more like depth change to me.
-
Definately. And if you look closely, those graphics acually look similar to what we saw in the Halo 2 trailer. Damn those graphics are sweet. What is the name of that program Particle? And what are the requirements?
*edit*
Is it me, or are the lights causing the surfaces to actually cast shadows on platforms below them? (see the step to the left)
-
That's plain Quake 1. People have taken the engine and modified it to include bump mapping, per pixel lighting (the shadows you were noticing--all lighting is dynamic, same tech as doom 3), and various other visual enhancements like volumetric fog.
You can play Quake like that in real-time. It's a mod.

That screen shot is Tenebrae with the High-Res e1m1 project texture set. I also run (unseen in the picture) a set of high-poly models and "boxes".
I did some more pictures showing off the blood and water this morning. Don't worry about that band at the top, it's an artifact from my video card. Happens in HL sometimes too.

Wow... Those graphics kick arse.

Wow.. Those graphics kick arse
I wish CS had those graphics... then I would buy it.
-
Not bad for a game made in 1996, is it?
-
Ahh, those brilliant people from sourceforge. You know they are the guys that also brought us Xbox linux, which I will be installing on my own xbox in a few days.
Perhaps I will rune WINE and see if I can run tribes on it.
-
Damn, a 600mhz requirement. Guess I'm gonna have to wait till tomorrow or something.
-
How do u get that little picture on the left? btw even though i dun like doom or quake or wutever that is... i was drooling over those graphix
-
Part, i noticed that there are no longer stars but now we have balls... is that so Shorty cannot kill anyone with his stars???????????
-
Nah, just decided to try spheres instead of stars. I think they look better than those stupid yellow and orange stars.
-
I have four balls.. o_O
Merry Christmas, btw~
-
Am I the only person to still see stars????? I've never seen these spheres, always stars. hmmm.....
-
Mods and admin still use stars by their names. Click the refresh button and it should update though.
-
Ah I did refresh and now I see them. For the last how many ever days we've had them i still saw stars even after I would post. strange indeed.
-
That's what we call Internet cache. Good on my webserver as well!
-
Ok, not so strange but....ya know....umm....yeah i knew that
-
hehe *nudge*
Sure ya did! 8)

I ran Tenebrae on my new laptop w/ 2 ghz, 256 mb ram, and 32 mb rage mobility card, and it ran like a terrorist with a leg wound. Im gonna tweak it a little bit, mebbe drop the resolution to 320x240 and see how that runs.
Oh, and btw, is that the same Tenebrae that does the 3D modeling that we see in the credits for DeusPack?
-
Doubtful.
Try running it 720x480x32 non-windowed, full mirrors but don't force all water reflective, don't enable glares, radius scale .4, original size textures, trilinear filtering, no texture compression, anisotropy 1 (None), 22050Hz sample rate with 16bit sound.
Run that, it works pretty good on my GF3 Ti500.
-
I have a ti500 on this desktop comp im using right now, but i get an error everytime I try to run tenebrae:
ARB_texture_env_dot3 not found
Probably your 3d-card is not supported
Thats what it says. Do I have to d/l special textures or something?
-
You don't have to. Try updating your drivers.
