According to planettribes.com they will be realeasing The code used for T:V
http://http://ccforums.mechnex.net/index.php?showtopic=3239
I dont know if it is a public realease or what, but I thouht it was rather interesting.
PS. The Screen shots of T:V look sweet

Yeah they do.. I can't wait!
-
Will that mean u can start modding before the game is released?
-
You already sort of can, cant you? It is based on Unreal engine right?
-
Yes, it is based on the Unreal engine so I have heard.
-
oOo

To do a T:V mod, it'd be best to wait for the UnrealScript, so you can make variants of the actor(analogious to objects) classes they give.
-
You have to realize though..
Tribes was based off of the Quake engine.. The code is a bit different between the two.

You'd have to look at the two engines scripting and look at the way they do things, and translate one to the other style.
Wasn't code in Tribes just plaintext executed via console(is this the same for server side scripts)? UnrealScript is actually a misleading name, as the language is actually compiled either by the editor or ucc(better for large projects).
Now if T:V was modified to do script execution in console(beyond a list of commands), that would be cool.
T:V excites me because I love the tribes series and the unreal engine, so I might be able to contribute to the mod community.
-
I know in the origional Unreal Engine, you could execute via console.
Never played 2k or 2k3 though.
-
Fun Games but i was only into them for a month or so. I did BETA for UT2004

QuakeII. Possibily one of MY favorite games I've ever played. This may seem strange to you people considering it's old and doesn't fit your likeings. But it's all around fun. I used to play LAN's with over 40 people on a server. It was great. [Edit]

I know, but it isn't anywhere near the point tribes's console. You could execute text files with simple commands and that was all.
here's something I made a few months ago for a ut admin
admin set unreali.Cow Mass 999999999
admin set unreali.Cow MaxStepHeight 100
admin set unreali.Cow Health 2000
admin set unreali.Cow Aggressiveness 1
admin set unreali.Cow bIsWuss False
admin set unreali.Cow CombatStyle 1
admin set unreali.Cow JumpZ 250
admin set unreali.Cow GroundSpeed 500
admin set unreali.Cow SightRadius 2000
admin set unreali.Cow FovAngle 120
admin set unreali.Cow Intelligence BRAINS_MAMMAL
nothing in there or the console guides include anything that would constitute flow control and such, whereas in tribes clientside scripts far more functionality existed. This just means we have to settle with the fact functional clientside scripts are out of the picture until further notice.
-
You mean by the ability to change variables through the console and send actual data blocks through it.
This is true, but considering it IS a Tribes, I'm sure you will be able to.

Quake kicks ass. Esspecially QIII Arena. One of my all time favorites.
As for that coding talk ur saying.....I cant stand hearing any of that technical jargon of yours!

I played a bit of Q3. Not as good as Q2. When Tribes came out I still prefered Q2.
-
I liked Quake1 better... what's scary is people still play it.
-
What i liked about tribes when i first played it (the demo) was the fact that i could go hide on top of a huge piller out on the hilly open and snipe people that took or flag. I played tribes demo for 2 years before i even thought of trying the full game. I was using a 56k Dial-up connection but i figured out how far in front i should fire to hit a moving target. ooh the memories.
-
Yeah, the minigun had to be the best gun for that job. Of course, a hyper blaster (on the mods) worked better than anybody else realized.
-
Minigun isn't a base weapon
The blaster is one of the most underestimated weapons too.
-
I know it's nothing to do with the subject but has anyone played the paintball mod? It was surprisingly fun.
-
I didn't care much for it at all =/
Granted, with the amount of people that have wall hacks in Tribes, there isn't much that is fun anymore.
-
Thats why i dont paly much. Give T:V a coupla months and youll see the same scripts coming out (HM)
-
I play TAC (Team Aerial Combat). You can't touch the ground, and rely on APC's to get to the flags. Team work is a must, since only medium armor can pilot, and you can't pilot an APC with the flag. The scout has also been removed.
The same weapons as in base are used, the same jetting, damage etc. are basically the same.

Personally i think the AAOD mod was the best. I used to love making my base invinable and noone could distroy it. Then make a death star and distroy everything
