Title: Counter-Strike
Post by: Crash on December 19, 2002 02:47 pm CST
I need some help from you guys. The current full update is buggy if you use Windows 98 and the Retail version(which I do) so I need someone to send me the 1.0.0.0 - 1.0.0.4 update. Any help is appreciated, and will result in a cash prize on the server.

Oddly enough, TFC is a lot newer than TF.

I miss the days of TF--back when a "mod" was a fairly new concept.  Good ole' Quake.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 20, 2002 11:19 am CST
I played TF for the first time after many months of playing TFC, and I gotta tell you, the colors depressed me, literally.  After playing it for 10 minutes, I laid down and took a nap.  I dont know why, but I just felt bad after playing Quake TF.

I used to really, really like TFC.  I'd even play it before going to work (about 2 years ago).  I played it all the time.  And somedays, TFC would go down for the day, and I'd go find me something socially to do.  Now, I like CS.  But you are right, there are waaayyy too many hackers and scripters on that game.

The easyest way to detect it is when you die, go into the first person view of the last person that killed you, and observe the way they aim.

I was watching this guy the other night, and he fired like 5 feet away from a person, and it still hit that guy.  Wierd.

But, I have come up with my own strategy.  You know how u can make ur own decals and place them on walls?  Well, I found this decal that looks just like a CT, and I just put it on a wall and wait for some terrorists to run in and fire on the decal.

After a brief "WTF?" I jump in and blast em all to hell with my super shotgun.  HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Particle on December 20, 2002 11:50 am CST
That's lame.

Also, Quake was a gothic game--the colors reinforce that.

Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 20, 2002 03:17 pm CST
Even without that trick, particle, i usually get like a 4-5 kills per one death ratio.  Its not bad.  But with my new method, I can get like a 7-10 kills per 1 death ratio.

I do the psycho rush. My team is always hiding behind me. Mac pwns j00
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 20, 2002 04:16 pm CST
Every time I rush, I get owned.  Soo, I have to do the slow approach.  I stray from the fighting and flank the terrorists (I always play as CT).  I this way, I can knife the hell out of a whole team before they realize what the hell is going on.  Seriously, I pretty much won an entire match one time by running up behind a terrorist firing squad and completely humiliating them.

Also, I have found the shotgun to be my best friend.  A mix of shotgun, HE, and smoke grenades makes me unstoppable.

Of course, im toast if I cant afford kevlar and helmet after buying all that stuff.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Particle on December 20, 2002 04:19 pm CST
Kevlar's only good for long-range fire and HE grens.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike

Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 20, 2002 04:22 pm CST
Well, if it helps, I was in my prime when I first began playing CS.  I was a masta with the styr aug, but I took a break and began playing TRPG for months.  So now I come back, and I suck with the Styr aug.

My strategy is still cool though, very unique.

Pump owns all, too. I love a good dust run as a terrorist. On your way to rushing the site, throw a flash out the tunnel entrance. Then run to the end of the hall and jump out, and nail whoever is there. If noone is there, throw a flash around the corner, followed by a HE, followed by you. Take out whoever is there, then plant.

That technique happens so often, I am usually well prepared for it.  That is the normal route I usually take, but I stay clear of those who do that untill they have already thrown it.  I stay under the ledge and wait for them to come by.  Dust isnt my favorite map though.  Aztec is.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Crash on December 20, 2002 05:09 pm CST
That is why I rush, so I can learn where everyone hides. You may cap me the first time, but the second I will smoke and come out from above you.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 20, 2002 05:22 pm CST
You think I use the same technique over and over again?  You are sadly mistaken.  I have a very good system going for me, and it boggles my foes, like lets say i hide behind a box and cap them the first time.  The next round, they come by that box, but im not there, when they turn and start firing where I first was, I jump out and kill em.  Very simple yet affective method.

Now, I am opposed to camping, I hate it, so usually I am constantly moving, yet ever time I find a place to grab cover, such as a step to a doorway, I crouch for about 5-10 seconds to check out my scene.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Crash on December 20, 2002 05:38 pm CST
I don't have to stare. I played without sound for a while, so my only refrence was visual. You learn to scan while playing like that. I recomend playing without sound for like 2 weeks so your eyes become more tuned.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 20, 2002 05:40 pm CST
If i ever see anything that looks out of place on the map, i shoot it.  It kinda reminds me of the game delta force.  At far away, everybody looks like little blobs that are slightly different from the sand color.  All you have to do is shoot anything that looks out of place, and you basicly have won the match.

K.. Dawrin... If you take 10 seconds to figure otu the scene then you should be playing on n00b servers..

That is good training Crash.. I have been doign it recently and it works..

BTW.. I don't rush.. I got tired of rushing because when I wanted to turn back i couldn't because if the person behind me was any closer I would be choking on him.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 21, 2002 06:39 pm CST
It doesnt take me 10 seconds to check out the scene.  I crouch when there is cover available to be prepared for any imminent attack of somebody walking by.  And believe me, sometimes grabbing the slightest bit of cover can save your ass.

What I really hate are those guys who shoot corners when they see like 1 pixel of my body.  I think they make their own scripts and stuff so that they can see people through walls or something.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Particle on December 22, 2002 06:26 am CST
If you don't shoot through walls when you know there's somebody's there, then you're stupid.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 23, 2002 12:08 pm CST
Whoah, I didnt know the bullets could go through brick!

That is a feature i really hate/love about counter strike.  Unfortunately, the only thing i normally shoot through ever time would have to be that box that people can camp in on de_aztec.

While the other members of my CT team have the terrorist occupied by the main gate, I take the flank and come around through the water/bridges and launch a suprise attack.  Very sneaky.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Particle on December 23, 2002 01:11 pm CST
If you did that while I was T on aztec, you'd be toast every time.  One-person water flank attacks are VERY easy to squash.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 23, 2002 01:46 pm CST
And sadly that is very, very true.  Nothing annoys me more when a group of 2 or more terrorist rush to the water.  Once they are there, they can pretty much control the entire game.  But my tactic is usually the bridge crossing tactic.  I load up with a super shotgun, HE gren and Flash gren.  Throw flash gren first (smoke gren works too), then throw HE.  The HE gren (if it doesnt kill them) will send all those who were hiding in that bridge cross room reeling for cover.

I cautiously cross the bridge, continually firing on the corners till I make my way across.

If Im lucky, my team will have the terrorist at the gate pinned down, where I can easily pick them off.

And, if that doesnt work, my decal of a CT comes in real good handy.

When I  used to play TFC, I normally would play as a spy.  I made a decal that was really a SS of a blood spatter on a wall.  I place the decal on the wall, feign a death, and wait for unsuspecting victims.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Particle on December 23, 2002 02:30 pm CST
Regardless of how it's used, it's still lame.

And btw, aztec is a 100% CT-sniper friendly snipefest.

Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Darwin on December 23, 2002 02:41 pm CST
I cant snipe very well, unless you call using the styr aug sniping.

Everybody seems to aim 10x faster than me when I snipe.  Must be using their own scripts or something.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Particle on December 23, 2002 02:45 pm CST
I insist the original thought here--you just suck at sniping.  Snipers typically do nothing but.

Post by: Darwin on December 23, 2002 02:56 pm CST
Ever heard of that old aimbot hack?  Or speed hack?  Or wall hack?  Well, they dont work anymore, but I'm sure people can still make their own aiming scripts just to piss me off.

One time I succesffully got a noclip hack to work on TFC.  I had so much fun.  I would be the HWG, and when nobody was looking, I would pop out of a wall and kill em.  Terrific hack.

Download the demo and you will see what I mean.  The models are so huge that you cant miss em when running the map.  And another thing, the game takes NO SKILL AT ALL.

On my first sortie, I OWNED everybody.  Of course, the demo had only come out like 5 minutes after I was playing it, but still, the game is so freaking easy.  I dont understand how so many people suck at it.

You will notice how the developers at Epic obviously didnt want anybody to camp.

I would like to point out that when you are setting up the scope, it fades from black.  Well, there are "scripts" that instantly come up, no blackout.

I think that is cheating if you have that, and the other people have to wait to find you...
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Particle on December 25, 2002 02:14 pm CST
If everybody had an OC3, we could have easy to use fast cheat-proof technology.
Title: Re: Counter-Strike
Post by: Jason_Xero on December 26, 2002 09:03 am CST
Yeah, but think of the privacy and security that you lose.

If everyone has an OC-3, one can hack into one's computer and steal/delete/copy copyrighted legal documents with ease of use.  As far as cheat-proof technology, you have to remember, it scans your computer for any malacious material that MAY be used as a cheat.

Take PB (PunkBuster) for example.  It scans your whole Half-Life folder for any known cheats.  From there I suspect it will only grow to be able to find something that even a default user will have on their computer.  Then the computer-police come and arrest you for having malacious cheats on your computer.  But I've looked too far into the future, I don't want to spoil it all for you.

No, this has nothing to do with Donnie Darko, case closed - he was a psycho that dreamt it all up, and so was that old hoot.

Wouldnt it be cool if the government issued OC3 connections to everyone, which would not be monitored/surveyed by the gvmt?

I think that if we all had OC3, somebody would create programs to protect your system.  I mean, look at ZoneAlarm, that is an outstanding prog that makes your computer invisible to hackers.

I had accidently downloaded a virus (probably from porn) that kept relaying back to a server ever single key I pressed.  Im guessing it was a program that steals credit card information.  Well, anyway ZoneAlarm helped me to block that IP so it stopped pinging off me.  It was lowering my ping by -20 and some games would run extremely slow (C&CRA2) untill I finally found a fix for that virus.
