New Geforce 4 Ti 4200
« on: July 16, 2003 04:32 pm CDT »
I got a Geforce 4 Ti 4200.. Its amazing with Morrowind. Expecially the water effects. For some reason the Frame rate in Tribes stays the same. But looks slightly better. I turned AA off and still the same..weard..anyway. I recomend this card (as if you need to hear me saying that)

8739 in 3D Marks is a pretty good score in my books...im thinking of sending it back and buying a highly overclocked Ti 4200 that actually beats a 4600...but i might need to keep it in my fridge just to keep it cool!

I have a lvl 23 Assasin.. my sneak is at 100, and I love getting stealth kills with my Longbow, and glass dagger.

Also, it's so much fun stealing from the shopkeeper's and reselling it at other shops like ya said.. that's the most fun and easy way to make money in the game, I think.

But it really sucks, because my harddrive just crashed while I was playing Morrowind, and I lost my friggin char.

You should start an Assasin, they're fun..

It is a nice card..

Your fps won't get any higher in Tribes because it can't.

Tribes is more CPU intensive probably because of the extra optimizations it has to make to output to OpenGL.

How much did you pay for that?  A 9500 Pro is a much better card in that price range that can get you a lot better fps in most games and the image quality is far better.  Anti-Aliasing is much better as well, and also doesn't slow it down tremendously like the nVidia cards do.  The Ti4200 is also a Directx7 card, meaning any game that uses DX8 or DX9 enhancements will not show.  The ATi cards up from 9500 fully support DX9.

However, if you want something that will overclock, by all means, get a 9600 Pro.  The only thing is that they only have 4 rendering pipelines and 1 texture pipeline which is exactly half of what the 9500 Pro has.  This makes for some lackluster performance between the two.  But, it can overclock like a beast and may outperform it.  All up to you, but I recommned going with ATi on this one.

Oh, and btw, nothing new about the 4200's.  It is old technology.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

Every game maxes the CPU in order to push the most triangle and code data as possible to the GPU.  Even the GPUs that do most of that themselves still rely on the CPU, usually resulting in 100% utilization (or close to) between rendering and game code.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.
