I was squished!
« on: August 11, 2003 07:33 pm CDT »
Hi there!

My character was standing still on the raft when it pulled into the landing & killed my character instantly. All my armour was missing from my inventory when I regenerated. When I went back to retrieve my pack, it wasn't there. I even checked the raft. Does anyone know what happened to all my stuff?

It is gone. everyone has this happen to them early on before they learn that the mast is your friend and you need to stand next to it until the boat comes to a complete stop.
Go out and re-earn your stuff. no one is ever compensated for this loss and it is chalked up as a learning experience.

Not to sound cold, but Evil's exactly right.  It's an RPG--you win some you lose some.  You wouldn't expect me to replace your items if you lost a fight with too tough of a monster would you (though some people have tried  ).

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Hehhe, I've watched that happen to someone. (tried to help them too, but never got it)
The raft drags the pack along the bottom, untill eventually it seems to fall through the terrain...Nothing can be done about it after your dead. But, atleast next-time you'll be more cuatiouse.

I kissed a drunk girl on the lips.
This post, by its very length, defends itself against the risk of being read.

Water
« Reply #4 on: August 12, 2003 03:30 pm CDT »
Oh well, never mind.

Just out of curiosity, is there any way to add code to make the water more realistic, like the water in Quake? Or would this require a completely different game engine?

There are static water objects where the water flows like real water, but it won't get any more real than that.

Those flowing water effects drain the cpu too much anyway for what they are worth.
