Random Crashes
« on: April 16, 2003 05:53 am CDT »
If you notice, and I'm sure a lot of you do, that if you play for a long period of time (more than an hour or so) that when you press ESC or Alt+Tab or Alt+Enter, the game crashes. I was just wondering why... Is it from Deuspack? From the TRPG code? Will the US ever recover from the war in Iraq? Will peace and prosperity ever come to the world?

Either of them would work to suffice me, but I've never had base Tribes crash as often as TRPG does for me. As a matter of a fact, I don't think I've ever had a base Tribes crash like that.

No matter your system specs, it will happen to you!

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

Believe me, I have set aside my own 2 GB partition just for the swapfile, so it in no way can be that.

Windows automatically uses certain space usage based on how much system ram you have.  I have mine manually set to 500-2000MB.

Jason is right about the space reserve.

It could be a number of things that make it crash..

It could be Deuspack.. You would have to have modified it though, because his code is pritty much flawless.

It could be programs running in the background that you didn't have before.. Believe it or not, Tribes is a mega resource eater, and it hates it if another program trys to stand in it's way

It could also be the memory buffers overloading, which from a client side, is hard to do.. Unless you have masses and Imean masses of custom scripts running.

That part about where tribes crashes is one of the reasons I am never returning to the server again.  I just started happening on my comp one day.  In fact, it began happening on ALL 3 of my comps around the same time.  It was annoying because I like to listen to music while I sat there in... well... any zone auto swinging.

What do you mean crash, take you off the server without a message, have tribes just shut down, or have tribes just freeze up? Because I have my own similar type problem where I get dropped out of a server with no warning. Presto, for me tends on removing all messages such as Kick, Ban, Dropped, Invailed packet, ETC... another thing Presto tends on doing is Make me drop out, I never have it where I randomly drop out when not using Presto, with Presto it happens on an every 10 minute basis :P.

Nobody I talked to on Tribes ever had this problem when on Presto. Does anyone here have this problem or does anyone know how to fix it?

Presto is a buggy piece of malarkey anyway.  Please don't bring up old threads.  This if from April, if you didn't notice.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Maybe so, but Presto pritty much started client-side scripts.

Sorry.. I just had to add that.
