Ahhh... but you are mistaken.
She was actually only charged with 1 count; lying to a federal investigator. The max sentence for that is 20 years though.
Also, we should note that she is a Democrat, her trial took a few months ending in a charge with lying to a fed, there was not sufficient evidence to charge her with any other crime, and the ENRON thing has been in the courts for more than 3 years, with SCORES of information clearly showing the conampy CEO, CCO, oweners, etc, as Guilty... yet most of them are still walking the streets unheld or unpunished.
Also, in recent polls conducted by those national poll people (the name escapes me at the moment) she has a 55% dislike rate among citizens of the USA. I did not get to hear/see the ammount who are indifferent or the ammount who like her.
It strikes me that the public appears to have a general approoval for her suffering, so the nature of her jail sentence is generally being accepted.
I think that by current law it is perfectly legal for them to imprison her for up to 20 years, HOWEVER, it seems hardly fair in comparrison to any other major corprate scandal.
**edit to add** --In the USA we determine case settlements by comparrison to past cases of similar nature. As it stands, the ENRON people have yet to get more than probation or I think 7 years max (I could be wrong... I forget numbers easily on occasion... this may be one of them.)
It's kind of crazy the circumstance of her imprisonment.
Anyway... uhh... ramble.
