You could lap the top of a core if you don't go overboard.  I've seen it done without a prob.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Not the Athlon 64...  it has a heatspreader.

There is no mention of sanding down the core in my post nor in the Arctic Silver tutorial that was also posted.  Read the steps carefully, it says to skip some steps, Lidge.

Yeah it does, but as you know, hardly a soul reads past the post these days.  This was for anyones benefit who was jumping right in with out reading the tutorial from arctic.  It was just an insurance post... I don't know more than 2 people (well, maybe more) that have an A64 or AFX series CPU.

HardOCP did a AMD test and how well the processors handle the newest graphics cards.  Interestingly, the Barton 2500+ beat the A64's by quite a margin.

That is only because of the lack of operating system to handle the a64s.
