Comp performance problems
« on: September 3, 2004 02:19 pm CDT »
this is a duplicate post of that on the orb forums (perhaps theres some stat crawlers here who can pinpoint my problem) And please, people who fly the brand zealousy flags dont help here. Posts that say "oh its because your using this brand they always suck" do nothing to help. If you've had experience with problems with certain brands, thats what im looking for, but not people who say "obviously your problem is the brand name and nothing else".

---CLIP ----
Recently i've been feeling that my last upgrade of parts was a waste, it feels like despite having decent hardware, my comp isnt running anywhere near todays performance standards. So im wonderin if there is some bottlneck on my comp somewhere thats causing alot of problems.

These are the free versions so perhaps the score is smaller because they only feature a few tests.
My 3dmark03 score : 149
My 3dmark01 score : 2571

Which REALLY sucks. Most top end computers nowdays are breaking 21,000 3d marks on 03.

Look on google for a program called "Hijack This." Run it and post the ENTIRE log file here. If you have decent cooling, it is not a hardware problem.

Another program you might want to "look" for is called WinOptimizer made by Ashampoo. It has a nice little tool that scans and removes bad registry entries. It also cleans up DLL files, and has a nice Internet Tweaker attached to it as well.

Also post every pice of software that is listed in your add/remove programs list. SP2 has a nice way of screwing a computer over if you have certain software installed.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

nah, particle is the man, he was completely right, i put my gforce3 TI back in and poof score shot up to 8600. I was under the assumption that Gforce4 started where the Gforce3 ended, boy was i wrong. On top of scoring almost 4 times as much, it was capable of running all 17 of the tests and not just 13 of em. Its not a software issue im fairly sure, i run pretty rigid spyware protection, and keep pretty close tabs on anything that runs on my computer.

I use RegCleaner, how does that program you use compare? i've never really found anything else suitable, or comparable.

and nesso, could be how you phrased it, i dont knwo the original context of your post, but it helps to be very clear to the point and provide as much up front information as you can, so people dont have to ask. When i showed particle, he scanned the list (i assumed he jumped to the vid card) and he recognized that that series is horrible or what not.

One thing that would be nice, just since these are posted, what do you guys think of certain things? like busspeed and particular stats, im pretty knowledgable in computers, but not in detail, is there anything else i should be worrying about? since nearly everything is new parts, minus the hard-drives.

Here is the difference in stats with my GeForce 3:
Description:      Primary Display Driver
Manufacturer:      NVIDIA

Max Active Hardware Lights:   8
Max Texture Blending Stages:   8

Vertex Shader Version:   1.1
Pixel Shader Version:   1.1
Max Vertex Blend Matrices:   0
Max Texture Coordinates:   8

WinOptimizer makes your computer run like it does with a fresh install of Windows. I can't really compare the two. I just know for a fact WinOptimizer has made me a lot of money tied along with adaware.

Yes, I use WinOptimizer too..  it really makes a huge difference.  My computer would always junk up and start running slow, but now it always runs like I just restarted it.
