Digital Camera Help
« on: June 28, 2005 01:48 pm CDT »
Ok..  Iv'e got $350 to spend at BestBuy, and I need some advice on what kind of camera I should buy with it.  I have absolutely no idea about anything when it comes to comparing digital cameras (other than how many megapixels it is), so could someone suggest a model or two that would be the best choice?  Iv'e been told to go with either cannon or sony, but I don't really like the person that gave me that advice.  I want something with at least 5MP..  possibly 4 if someone can give me a good reason for it.

get a cannon. dont worry about megapixel unless you're planning on blowing up the picture and making prints. when it comes to standard size 4x6 prints you just need at least a 2. but you have to make sure you take the picture at the highest res to get the best quality print. but if you're just using it for online pics then a 2 megapixel is just fine.

i suggested a cannon because their models come with a lot of manuel features which make their cameras worth more than you pay for it. for example if you went with a fuji or a sony you'll only get a point and shoot camera. but with a canon you can adjust everything from apature to shutter speed. which comes in handy if you want to take pictures that look like they were taken with a higer end camera.

I bought my canon a60 for 200 dollars and ive had it for over a year. you've seen the pictures ive taken with it. its only a 2mp.

bottom line, get a canon. you'll get way more than you paid for. and they last forever.

i took that with my 2mp. I just adjusted the apature, which is the focal lengh

oh and one more thing, no matter what kind of camera you get, if you dont know how to use it you're never going to get good pictures. that's why its important to read the books that come with your camera and really learn about all the features. also dont get caught up in digital zoom. digital zoom is crap. you want to look for a camera with good optical zoom. i never use digital zoom. its always fuzzy and never looks good.

ok you should deffiently look at this camera

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 7341193175

its the upgraded version of mine. its an awesome camera. it has tons and tons of features and you can also add on lenses to get different effects. also it takes video of up to 4 minutes with sound.

probably the best bet for your money.

if you do end up getting that camera the only draw back is it takes 4 batteries. but i bought rechargable batteries. i have a set of 8 so I never have to buy batteies. and for about 30 dollars you can get 8 and a charger. probably less if you buy it at walmart like I did. just make sure to get digital batteries. i could go on forever about this camera...but you should deffiently look into this one and maybe go to best buy and play around with it. so you can get a feel for it.

Ended up getting this:

Looks like it has the exact same specs as the one you suggested, although it isn't a cannon..  but at least I got everything else right :P
