Instrumentation opinion
« on: May 6, 2006 04:55 pm CDT »
My friend and I can't decide what instrument is in the background of this song. (It comes in at about 20 seconds)

Highguard March

I think it's a distorted guitar
He think's it's distorted bagpipes

What do you think it is?

When someone says synthesized, that generally means it was played on a keyboard with certain sound settings to produce that effect.  It could also mean a specific instrument was recorded and then synthesized to sound different..  darwin wasn't very specific so he could have meant either or.

As for the song.. there isn't really a way to tell without speaking to the composer.  It would be easy to make a guitar OR a bagpipe (or just a keyboard) make that sound.
