At the risk of sounding brutally honest:

If you seriously think an iPod is "ftw" then you need to quit coming to this forum.  We "normal people" don't allow anybody that retarded to post here.

That's exactly why I have it. I have all of my music with me, and I don't want or need anything else. I love my music, and that's all I need

Reminds me of an oversized ipod ripoff.

They cost roughly the same...so you're trying to tell me that less product for the money is what makes it popular?  It'll do anything an iPod can do and has a feature list that makes the iPod look like a pocket calculator.

Its not a geek product. Its market is for people who want stylish looking music players.

Just wondering but does your $300 pda come with a 30gb drive?

The iPod also makes it's sale in its simplicity.

$430.  It's got 5GB of storage with both SD and CF Type II slots for expansion.

You get a 60gb video ipod for $399.  Cant exactly fit an entire music collection on 5gb.  Ipods dont have as many features but they are still worth the money.

I have the shuffle and having no screen sucks but it has survived going through the washer.

I just want to listen to my music. Which I can. With ease. All of it. In one place. In the car. On my bike. iPod.

I agree to an extent with your 'more product for your money' position, but if I'm not going to use any of those features, why should I buy them?
The mass market doesn't want "SD and CF Type II slots for expansion." They want something cool and easy to use. I plug my iPod in to my computer, drag and drop my music, and I'm read to go and listen where ever and whenever I want.

I think at this point we are just at a severe fork in taste.  I want expansion slots.  I want wifi.  I want something that isn't going to cost me $400 to only play some DRM infested AAC files from the overpriced iTunes music service.  It's one of the prettiest devices I have.  It plays Quake 3.  It handles email and lets me take memos.  It plays every audio format under the sun including vorbis.  Everything I listen to fits in a few gigs, but if it didn't I could add as many six or eight gigabyte microdrives as I wanted and change them at will.  Same goes for SD cards.

In regards to my buying my PocketPC:  If I were stupid enough to buy an iPod instead, I'd have to shoot myself after sterilizing myself with fluorosulfuric acid.

The iPod sucks so long as the discussion is on this forum.

I had 2 iPods break on me, and by that time my warranty was up and I decided not to buy another.  The next mp3 player I buy won't be from apple..  besides, I can't even fit my entire music collection on the 60gig iPods anymore.  I've got an active playlist and an external harddrive for my entire collection, so I rather go with a different brand of mp3 player with 20gigs of space than have to deal with all of iPods problems again..
