More music help..
« on: July 24, 2006 11:32 pm CDT »
I have a portion of this song stuck in my head and i'm trying to figure out what it is.  I looked up the only like 6 lyrics I know and I can't find anything but christina aguilera (sp?), billy idol, and cheap trick.

It's an indie song, and it's been used in a few commercials iv'e seen in the past few months..  I think it may even be in one of the iPod commercials.  I think it says "another day, come on come on" and then something else and then "come on come on"..  repeats that a few times.  I know someone knows what i'm talking about..

Why would you assume its indie if you don't know what it is?

Probably because it sounded like indie rock?  What kind of question is that?

Google knows all, but in this case you would need to use a little brain power as well =)  I could have told you it wasn't smash mouth before I ever saw the lyrics to it.

Thanks for the 'duh' and making yourself look dumb, though.

Pfill wins this round =)

Given the details you provided, I can see why Smash Mouth was considered.  You didn't specify anything that would disclude them and the lyrical information you provided coincides with a popular cover song that they do.  The age of people on this board will tend for them to be more familiar with a recent cover than the original.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Indie can mean more than the sound of the music

Yes, it can.  Are you going to tell me that the song I was inquiring about isn't indie?  My best 3 friends are an "indie" band..  iv'e looked into the definition of the word.

You're right particle..  but I figured the ones that knew what I was talking about would provide useful information =)  Sorry for snapping at whoever said smash mouth..  I should have said who I already knew it wasn't in my first post.

Pawn Shoppe Heart is the major label debut album from The Von Bondies, the Detroit-based quartet whose provocative persona, unerring instincts and alluring approach to the essentials of great modern music have elevated their status as one of today's most influential and innovative young bands after just one independent[/i] release.

Along with their previous pair of independent[/i] releases and a relentless round of touring that have taken their galvanizing live show across America, Europe and the UK over the past two years, The Von Bondies' unique sound blends raw garage, true punk and real soul music into a seamless hybrid that's honest, intelligent and built on a foundation of authentic emotions and human conditions.

No man, we are just pointing out that indie is a very broad term.  Now, we kinda know what you mean by saying "indie", as the sound probably doesnt fit into what you would typically hear on the radio, such as sonic youth, and perhaps something that really wouldnt fit well into the mainstream listeners library.

What you should have said was perhaps:  indie punk, or indie trip hop, or indie hardcore.  That sort of thing.

Don't act so flustered at Xenos for pointing out that "its an indie song" gives us little to go on.  And by the way, if you are hearing it on commercials, chances are that the band is actually signed, not indie.

I'm not flustered, and this is a big misunderstanding apparently.  If I knew all about the band and what the rest of their songs sounded like, I wouldn't be asking you guys for help..  I used a broad term because I didn't know what they would be classified as.  The word I used (indie) would have filtered out such bands as smashmouth.  Had I used "indie rock" which is what that particular song sounded like, I could have been wrong because the sound of one song doesn't determine their classification.  Now that iv'e heard a few of their other songs, I would hardly call them "indie rock".

Thanks for pointing out to everyone else why I used a broad term, though.
