Help with XP admin

I know that isnt your exact problem but if it works and you're smart enough then you can figure out how it helps you.

You can get to a prompt via the recovery console, but the commands you can use are limited to the ones that are on the install CD.

How do I get to the recover console.. and from there, pull up the much desired command prompt?

Thanks Xenos.. I'm in the process of looking for an XP pro boot disk, lol.

"you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password" If I could maybe enter that, then I won't have to even worry about logging in..  yesss this might work.

I've run into a problem.. I followed the direction in that link word for word.. I've entered in all the commands and parameters that I properly need to be able to log back in. BUT, it won't let me get out of MS-Dos and back to repairing/restarting windows. When I type /exit, it only opens up a new Ms-Dos window.

I already went through this whole process, except last time I couldn't figure out how to resume so I held down the shutdown button on my laptop hoping I could restart and log in, but I guess the changes I made hadn't saved.

So.. what now?

That shift-f10 thing really worked? Wow.

Can you load up the "control userpasswords2"?  If so create a new account and make it part of the administrators group.  If you do that just restart your computer and log in with the new account.  Then you can atleast sign on and it should be easier to figure out what happned to your normal admin account.

Yeah, it worked... and yes, I already created an alternate admin account for back-up. lol

I even entered in the command to unrestrict my main administrator login (net user accountname /times:all). The problem lies in the fact that I can't get out of MS-dos without manually hitting the shutdown button and losing all data.

Help me out of MS-dos! please.. lol

Ah ha. It says in that article you must finish the repair before it will save the account changes you made.

Try the offline nt password and registry editor. Beware that if you used EFS (encryption) on the drive you will not be able to access your files.  Below is just for reference.

To reboot windows xp from the command line is

That will cause it to reboot in 10 seconds.
