Computer Critique

*Updated for a couple of changes (PSU, RAM, Vid Card, Case)

This is basically my first attempt at building my own PC. I'm familiar enough with hardware that I shouldn't have any difficulty putting it together, the hard part for me is making sure I'm getting good parts that are going to work well together. Ideally, this machine will run things like Bioshock and, later, Spore, without a hiccup.

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103771

Motherboard - ASUS CROSSHAIR AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI (This is one part I'm not sure about. Not really sure if SLI is 'worth' it, but I thought it might be good to have in case I want to upgrade from one card to two later)

Video Card - PNY VCG88GTS32XPB GeForce 8800GTS 320MB

OR

BFG Tech BFGR88768GTXOCE GeForce 8800GTX 768MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814143080

RAM - CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145034

Hard drive - Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822144417

PSU -  PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817703005

Case - LIAN LI PC-60BPLUSII Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811112100

Monitor - Chimei 221D-NBC Black 22" LCD (I don't know much about Monitors, but it seemed to have a good rating on Newegg)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824252008

Probably going to go with upgraded fan cooling on the CPU and Video Card.

Comments/Suggestions?

Sounds like a pretty good machine. Though I will admit I wouldn't pay that much for a motherboard (maybe that's my downfall, but eh).

I'm open to going for cheaper items and over-clocking. That's part of the reason I went with the 5600 cpu instead of the next one, which was the 6000 or something. Over-clocking would be another reason to go watercooling, I think. I just don't really know what to look for for good over-clockability.

what you buy depends from what they have in the shop...
as last time i built a pc...i took the best of everything, doens t mean it has to eb that expensive

why not take the

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor - Retail

dont have much to say about motherboard, its your choice, buti do prefer the most expensive ones...im just  atechn freak...like mine has stuff i dotn even use and prob never will lol

its not that much more expensive...when i buy my stuff i prefer having the best, if theres a lil price diff, i wont ,ind that much since the higher technology the later it will be out of date...

I don't like GE force that much, prefer radeon lol

(as a sidenote: they don't have that much in this shop...not as much as in mine, but mine is a nerd shop run by nerds, which makes it great in price , uqlaity and choice)

your hard disk is ok...but i would prob buy 2 of those ...maybe even bigger ones, but thats jsut me and my urge to dl tons of anime each month

the monitor is totally worth it, nothing to say about it

most of the things I would change is stuff that are for my needs, but in the end if its all good for you it doens tmatter.

I always consider going over my price if I see that I can get a lil better for a lil more money

From what I've read, the 5600 runs cooler and overclocks better than the 6000. That's why I went with that one. If it's otherwise, I'll reconsider.
