Model Progress
« on: November 15, 2007 12:14 am CST »
Thanks to rJ and Kyrie, I now have the ability to import my models into tribes. For the last few days, I've been spending the majority of my time sketching weapons and modeling them. rJ asked me to focus on axes, so I did. I also took the liberty to model a few halberd ideas (ones that actually look like real-life halberds).

Here's the set so far. No specific names for weapons. I'm planning to do another battle axe and then a bardiche. Chances are that most, if not all of these are way too high in terms of poly count. I did go overboard, considering this is Tribes we're talking about. Please leave feedback, as it will be crucial in the process of forging these models into usable items.

Note: These are all untextured. A real texture artist will be needed to do it properly.

Looks pretty good man, but I think they should be BIG and heavy looking.  Those look like Halloween costume accesories.

You'll have to give me an example, because they look pretty big as it is. Though I can see where the Halloween accessory comparison comes into play...

To be honest, I was hoping the top 3 would end up looking better than they actually came out to be. It seems that simpler = better in this regard, because I really like the bottom 3 a lot more.

So the secret is in the handle, not necessarily the blade. Hmm, interesting.

For the most part Josh. Though we are thinking tribes here. Think animations for your designs as well.

lol, *down...up...* and that's about it. So a double-handled one might be out of the question, but a single-handled one would be okay. I guess? I dunno, I mean we weren't given any terribly explicit instructions, so I'm just testing the waters right now.

Can we set new animations in tribes??? So we can set up a whole new array of ways to hit things? I know you can rotate the weapons or move them around, but completely new animations o.O

If Tribes wasn't so damn old, I would be the first to say we should try rope-animations. I don't know if they've been done or not (something tells me that if anyone has done it, it'd be Plasmatic), but if they COULD be done, it would be very nice to see a Flail (ball & chain mace) as part of our weapons loadout.

I'll get around to making more later this week. Right now I've got some tests and labs to finish.

Plasmatic eh...Well...Seeing as how the first mod I actually played on tribes was hosted by the one and only.  Steal animations from other games! Hahahahaha Get Crunk and get stumped!

It might be helpful to post what program you modeled with, what you did to export them to Tribes, the number of poly's per model and the approximate size of the files for each model.
Peace and yes the third model is pretty good!
(axes don't have terribly long handles, usually)

I use max7, but you'll have to ask rJ how he puts them into tribes. I just model, and then send the rest to him.

I can tell you right now that most, if not all, of these models are way over the poly limit (which is what btw?)
