Running Halo on an older system - Some issues to fix
« on: June 24, 2008 11:05 pm CDT »
I'm trying to run Halo 1 on an older HP...

Intel Celeron 1.1GHz
128MB RAM
Intel 82810 Graphics w/ 32.0 MB
Direct x9.0b
No service pack

This meets the min requirements, but the same issue keeps coming up:
Quote
A problem occurred initializing Direct 3D. Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG.

So, being a savvy young man, I ran DXDIAG. DirectDraw, Direct 3D, and AGP Texture Accelerations were all Enabled, so obviously the problem has to be elsewhere. But where? That's what I can't figure out. All the Google searches in the world didn't come up with the answer I was looking for, so I'm hoping someone here has had experience dealing with this.

Thanks.

I had a terrible time trying to run Halo on a PC that exceeded the minimum requirements. From what I figured, it was a terribly done port to the PC.
I never had that specific issue, but the game just ran so poorly I only played for about 15 minutes before uninstalling it and going back to the XBOX version.

You need a video card.

JayJay wins..  the game isn't recognizing your integrated GPU.

I have an ancient GeForce 4 that should work with the game, just pay shipping and it's yours.

Nah. As I was explaining elsewhere, it's not even my computer. I was just fixing it up for my girlfriend's younger sister. Thought maybe I could put a few games on there as a bonus....guess she's stuck with DX-Ball. :D

Most girls that I know that play computer games prefer your puzzle-style games, things like Puzzle quest, Snood, Bejeweled. Those should run with your system specs.

I showed my ex-gf bejeweled and she became obsessed..  she was so good at it, haha.
