Server Downtime (August 24, 2010)
« on: August 24, 2010 09:51 pm CDT »
I wanted to notify you guys of a server outage that will extend throughout tonight and into tomorrow.  I was checking the disk system remotely as part of a regular status check.  The box appears to have BSOD'd when I accessed the nVidia control panel.  WTG nVidia.  Your chipsets suck.

ANYWAY, I tasked a tech with bouncing the box, but they appear to have hit the wrong one.  We're after hours now and I won't get a second shot to get the box online until tomorrow.  Until then it'll be offline as well as all other services (GMod, TS3, Vent, etc).

I'm not on MSN tonight either because Windows on my desktop decided to f'k up.  MSN, PowerDirector, and Skype all crash with an error about a Visual C++ runtime error that appears unresolvable.  I'm going to have to reinstall flipping Windows because of it, and that makes me want to sh*t fire.  That's of course not your guys' problem but it does present a communication limitation short term.  Just email me at noTspaTmatpcTrpgdTotorg (remove the capital Ts and of course replace at and dot with symbols) or ICQ me at 34891584 in the mean time if you need something or just want to chat.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

You may have noticed that some services came up a few hours ago.  The NIC configuration was all forked up.  PCRPG itself should be up soon.

will this fix stop the server from crashing multiple times a day or is that something else?

I've yet to figure that one out exactly, but this last problem is unrelated to that.  The server crashes some number of hours after it starts, plus one minute.  Often 2-4 (plus one minute).  Not sure why.

i know some servers done this in the past but what about killing the bots automatically after there is no one in the zone? think how many bots spawn just for me to go into mines and leave to get to super spike.
