imposter server??
« on: August 8, 2003 09:51 pm CDT »
The servers been crashing a bunch today for long periods of time, and this time when it comes back up nobody has their character. Jupiter's on there telling everybody its a fake server, and with all the crashes I wouldnt be surprised if somebody crashed the original...

Perhaps they're trying to collect our passwords?

I dont want to raise any false alarms here, so lets wait till an admin says something. Just be cautious.

It would be common sense to know the IP of the server..

If the IP isn't the same, then it isn't the server.

Yes, people are sorry enough to steal passwords..

Well this is my first post. Sorry that its  a sad one. I went on the so called imposter server. There was a guy in there named "The Masta" He was in Admin armor. I started talking to him to find out who it was. I am a newb at particles so I would know many of those that play. He told me that he was not going to be caught because he was using Reecos address so it would be blamed on him. Who knows he may be using mine for all that matters. He said he used to play on Particles server b4 and he has tried to crash it b4 as well. I don't know if that info will help at all but thats all I got. He wouldn't tell me anything else. He said we have lost our Characters for good and the server for good as well. Who knows! :(

We have fake servers up trying to be particle's all the time. it is usually one of a small # of peeps.
Just dont go on it using your reguler character and if you already have, change your pass as soon as possible when the REAL particl'es returns.
try to get a screen shot of the ping list that shows the fake server's ip address.

You can't just waltz over another person's IP address if they're still using it.  Neither machines would function correctly in the confusion (not to mention naming and addressing rules between ISPs).

It would be worth checking.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.
