Another skill
« on: October 1, 2003 10:09 am CDT »
I have a new idea for PCRPG 4.00, Wood cutting skill, you will have an alternative to mining which is very much like mining(Only you use a hatchet instead of PickAxe). You go to specific trees, and hack away picking up Hickory, Birch, ETC... Why? it could be smithed, into bows, arrows or any other object thats made of wood, You might even be able to make size differances (Twig to Log). It can also be sold at merchants. It may need a few more purposes in-game before its logical to put the work to add in the game, if anyone can think of more uses post 'em.

Ever hear of TVT RPG?  ;)  Of course... to make this work right, some changes would need to be made to the item system... I was about to psot an other thread about it before I read this, but I'll post the thread anyway, as it's kind of a sepearate topic.

This was also stolen from y0shi..

As I said in the other thread.. There would have to be a client-side script for htis to happen.

I am talking about in this server. Trident did something a bit different. He made "invisible" items. Every item on here has to be visible.. By demand not possiblility.

UnderGod: But it would be exactly like mining, just use a Tree instead of a Gemstone spike, no new shapefiles, no new code (Copys the code from Mining's code) how would it have to be Client-Side?

Lidge Farkley: Never heard of TVT only server I play on is Particles

It would have to be client-side to get more items in the game. You need items for what you would be cutting when you hit a tree.

Not neccessarily. Think of it this way. If you got coins from hitting a tree, would that require client-side scripting?

I think coins would classify as invisible items. Well, there closer to that then a real item.

This post, by its very length, defends itself against the risk of being read.

If you would read my post, you would have read that I mentioned that isn't going to happen on this server. Me and Particle have talked about it before.

ohh... TVT is orcs and humas for Tribes RPG... but without buildings other than the start houses.  basically you spend a lot of time farming, smithing, and mining to get stuff worth having.  The skill system is backwards in the speed at which you gain levels of skill.  ie; faster to slower in something like farming skill or bashing skill, etc..

I never played Yoshi's mod because it had a password as long as I knew it, and nobody responded when I mailed the address for the password to help test it out.  Oh well! :-p
