It's really scary, actually..  it make you wonder about all the movies that have robots becoming smart and taking over humanity..

It could easily happen if we continue on the path that we are taking--if Ai is ever widely implimented o_O

there is no such thing as true AI.  for a robot to have AI, it would require it to be able to have intuition and a wide variety of other skills/emotions which a nonliving "thing" just can't have.  AI may be invented, but it won't be in my lifetime or yours so don't worry about it.

Who needs true AI when you can just make programming designed to kill and conquer in any way possible?  Put in all possible tactics and scenarios you can fit into its "skull" with a fast processor to take care of prediction, aim, tracking, and the like.

There's no need for true AI if you just want to make an army.

ah, but there is particle, a robot is a giant chunk of metal with a programmed brain.  all it takes is 1 human to outsmart any robot and take it out, which is why a robot is useless in battle, it can't think for itself when the situation elevates to something they were never programmed to do, and since the human brain can think for itself, it can always come up with new ways to take out a robot, so trying to program the robot for "all" possible scenarios would theoretically be "impossible".

In most situations, it would work fine.  I doubt 10 soldiers would want to go out on an open field with 10 robots.  Killing 9 robots won't effect the 10th.  Killing 9 humans will effect the 10th one in almost all cases (barring a suicidal neonazi).

There's lots of metal, but there are only 6 billion humans--most of which aren't military.  I think it could work if done right.  Of course, you aren't going to use the robots exclusively.

Remote controlled humanesque robots with guns would be cool.  Have say 10,000 humans around 50 miles away with an extremely powerful terrestrial satellite over the battlefield controlling them.  That would be better than the programmed bots, and it would save lives on that side.  It would be cool if war just turned into bot matches.  We could record the matches and market "The Battle of The Nile" (etc) or do PPV stuff.  Of course, we'd have Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and both full and letterbox format DVDs [both NTSC and PAL].  Merchandise.

What if the code was so advanced that the machine(s) actually became self-aware and were able to write new code into themselves? o_O  I can't imagine such a code, but anything is possible..   maybe they won't be able to adapt to ANY situation but they could adapt to enough situations to where they could defeat the human race..

ah... but you just contradicted yourself.  the human brain is capable of thinking its way through anything if it is logical enough, so therefore, whatever scenarios that the robots aren't programmed for and can't program themselves for, they lose.  robots will never be able to take over, because the human brain is even faster and larger than a computer, so a robot can NEVER outdo a human.

the NEVER assumes that you are the perfect being from god that uses 100% of your brain.

I don't think it would ever get to true AI systems or lone robots fighting. I think that yes, we will have robots helping fight wars but, they will be aids, not independent. Or what Particle said, have them on remote control.
And, I wouldnt be suprised to see a movie of robot deuls, hell I'd probably buy it. Atleast itd be more interesting than "reality tv."
