It doesn't, but you're talking like 512MB/s vs 132MB/s.  Your AGP bus doesn't share its bandwidth with anything else either, unlike PCI.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

AGP pritty much has direct contact with memory/cpu. PCI has to travel a ways on a motherboard.

Even with the increased PCI speeds, AGP will still be better with its direct connection.

PCI-X will be stupid fast, but it won't help the rest of your PCI cards except to eliminate share bandwidth bottlenecking.

Whatever happens, DO NOT BUY THE FX 5200 ! ! !

I got it to "tide me over" and I am finding myself using the VooDoo 4 instead.

The FX 5200 is the absolute worst piece of crap I have ever used.  I had heard terrible things, but I figured they were blown out of proportions.... I was wrong!

I dunno about that.  Halo yeilded some pretty impressive visual quality with the fx5200.  Only problem is speed.  GeForce3 yeilds much better results though.
