We Might Have a Bit of Trouble...
« on: March 14, 2004 03:29 pm CST »
Re-posted from the news on pcrpg.org:

Quote
Downloads Suspended Temporarily
I'm shutting off the downloads for pcrpg.org for the time being.  Apparently, the temporary server has a much, much lower bandwidth limit than the malfunctioning server.  I've already hit 80% of my bandwidth (whatever it is--they didn't say there was a different limit on the temp), so only pages will be online in the mean time.

I'll have to ask them my limit and model my site accordingly until the main server is fixed.

More than this, I think I've only got enough bandwidth left for about 5-8 days of minimal operation this month.  Once I get down to ~20MB, things won't be pleasant at pcrpg.org until April...unless they fix the server and I'm back to normal.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I typically serve 10-15GB per month.  It's been growing 500-600MB per month, too.  My normal transfer limit is 20GB/mo.  I think the temp is closer to 2GB, but they never told me they changed it on the temp server.  Maybe they just forgot a zero?

Does this mean Particle may no longer host avatars and sigs? (I was planning on making my own...someday.)

Use imageshack to host your images.  Its the easiest and most economical solution.

I'll host images, and buying me a new package would do nothing if I only get a tenth of the bandwidth I pay for.  This temp web server is just that--temporary.  I don't know how how long I'll be here while they repair the old one.

So do all who see such times, but its not up for them to decide. All you have to decide is what to do with the time you have.

Some that live deserve death, some that die deserve life, but can you give it to them?
