« on: May 5, 2004 12:16 am CDT »
Okay. I did something very very stupid. I disallowed access to the registry via regedit, and now I cant boot up windows, or anything(I tried safemode and all of that)

I cant find my WinXP disk, does anyone know how?

I tell you people time and time again not to screw with the registry...

If you can find the XP disk, then repair it through the setup..

If you don't have it, then then load a backup file or a system restore through another computer.

If you can't do that, then format.

Nobody f*** asked you. Go to hell and get out of my thread.

UG, We would have been able to do the retore thru the CD, but when I put the CD in and do the recovery process, it asks for an admin password, which I never set, and when I take a look at the password thingie for adminstrator thru a knoppix cd utility(I saw this from the video that dar showed) it says the the administrator password isnt set. We attempted to change it from there, but it didnt work. We failed. I  called microsoft, and they made up some bs about howthey cant help me until I get my real version of windows(I said I was using a friends to use the restore, and they said you need your own or it wont work, which I doubt) and then I said thanks for nothing, but I dontk now if I should reformat. It will take too long. Any other ideas?

If you use the Hard Drive utility that is made by your HD manufacture then it will take less than a few minutes to format.

You should find the HD Utility that your manufacture makes and use that format to speed up your process.

You really need to tell your brother to get off his Vespa (haha I'd make fun of him if I were you) and just let you use a Linux distro (which I'm sure he has) until you can obtain your own copy of XP.

Uhh.. Don't ever call M$ about any problems. Their techs are only required to have A+ and N+.

Yeah, I use MaxBlast for NTFS formats. It works wonders compared to that pos windows one.

As for the admin password.. If you look hard enough on the web, you can find a password recovery program that uses a mini Linux kernal. It works wonders for passwords.
