Excellent movie if you ask me. I never read the book, so that's probably why it was so good to me. Im betting if you read the book, it'll suck. Otherwise, decent movie, maybe good for a date too? A lighthearted date..

The book was like thousdands of pages...needless to say the movie left out most of it.  I've yet to see the movie.

The movie only concerns itself with the first book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It ends essentially the same way the first book does, with the main characters flying off to the Restraunt at the End of the Universe. I haven't seen any information hinting at bringing the second book to the screen, but I'd like to see it happen.

This version is alot better than the old movie that was done years ago (I never managed to sit through all of it). There were some really great and hilarious scenes, but they overplayed the romance between Authur and Trillian. Overall, it's a pretty good movie, but reading the book before-hand could somewhat ruin it for you. Best to take the movie as a movie and not compare it to the book itself.

I always seperate myself and watch a film for it's own purpose.  One of my friends refuses to do that, however.

I've read the whole trilogy of five books (yes, but that is how Douglas Adams worded it) twice over.  The first book had some really funny stuff in it that was left out of the movie.

BUT...  Adams wrote 2 versions for BBC radio, a BBC TV series, a BBC movie, and the books, and finally the screenplay.  Every single version was slightly altered.  So if you like the book and what it's about, you can't say the movie was bad since it was his screenplay.  Yes, it might have left out some parts, overstated others, etc but it was the version he tried for 10 years to put on the big screen.  He died without ever knowing that a movie would be reality.

I tried reading one of the books, I dont remember which one it was. In a way, Im glad I never read the book. My sister is obsessed with it, but I think it would have ruined the movie for me. I'm with Particle on seperating the books from the screenplays.

Oh, and the Post-Apocolyptic Macbeth movie doesn't deserve to even be on the Sci-Fi channel at 2am. Yeah, it's THAT bad.
