Oh Noes, Boston!
« on: February 2, 2007 06:22 pm CST »
Is anyone else having trouble getting over this whole Boston bomb scare thing?  I mean, the people involved are so incredibly retarded that it hurts just to recognize it.  I somehow feel stupider just being a member of the same country as these morons.

Most of you are probably familiar with the incident, but for those who aren't I'll give a quick recap of events:
- Turner hires an ad agency to promote one of their cartoons
- Ad agency comes up with what is essentially a magnetic Lite Brite of one of the characters from the cartoon
- Ad agency pays two of its employees to stick them to various things in 10 cities
- Two weeks later, somebody in Boston calls the police panicked because he thinks one of these things is a bomb
- The entire city of Boston is shut down while emergency services investigate the magnetic lit ads
- Police report that they appear to be IEDs and the media goes nuts
- At the end of the day, all of these dumb forks in Boston realize that they're all dumb as hell and start to point fingers anywhere they can so they don't look so forking retarded
- The city wants to put away the people who put the ads up for 5 years because their excuse is that they obviously wanted to incite panic with hoax explosive devices

Ok, so what's the problem?
- They weren't IEDs so much as they were a lot of LEDs attached to a battery made in the outline of a well known cartoon character.  Everybody over 30 must have been malarkeyting a brick about terrorists while everybody 29 and under was laughing their asses off that anyone could be so forking retarded.
- They were up for weeks before anyone noticed them.  While the Boston authorities are busy still patting themselves on the back for being able to respond to a terrorist threat so quickly and efficiently, everybody else realizes that if they really were explosive devices, the city would have disappeared more than a week ago.  They were advertisements after all--they were in extremely obvious places where millions would have seen the ads before the police even took notice because one panicked dipmalarkey called in.
- They want to put away people for 7-10% of their lives for sticking lights to various things with magnets.
- They are acting like idiots.  This is a direct quote from the prosecutor:  "It's clear the intent was to get attention by causing fear and unrest that there was a bomb in that location"  I can only imagine that this is to make them all not look so forking dumb.  Just like that one saying--smart people talk loudly.  Perhaps they think if they play it all serious and such, other people might eventually start believing them.  That is their only hope at this point, after all.

When I see this, my first thought is bomb.

I think this quote from a Boston-area student sums it up pretty well:  "The majority of us recognize the difference between a bomb and a Lite-Brite."

More on topic, yes we live in a country where 50% is retarted.  The people who put these up do not belong in jail for any amount of time.  The city officials look stupid and are trying to blame other for their stupidity.

When I first heard about it, they were trying to pass it off as one person had hung one of those up as a prank, and they were debating on whether or not he had done it to 'incite fear.'
This is the first I've heard that it was an advertisement (and was up for weeks already).
That's pretty retarded that they want to arrest the employees that placed them, wouldn't you go after the ad agency? The employees were just doing a job that the ad agency gave them, not trying to fool the city.

More importantly, nothing was done that should be punishable at any level.

Well if you remember properly the lite brite was made from a box with a light in it.  you would put a piece of black paper over the light, and stick the colored pieces in to the black paper, thus creating a hole for the light to shine through the small colored pieces.  there is no magnets or leds.  didnt you ever play with one of those particle?

Warning

Because it uses electricity and contains small pieces, Lite-Brite is not recommended for children under the age of six, or for residents of Boston.

Yes, I had a lite brite.  In my opinion, these ads look just like them.  It's a picture made from a cluster of small lights, in this case LEDs.  Surely you see the connection.
