A while back, a friend and I were driving to northern Kansas from Parsons. On the way, my friend's car started acting goofy and the steering wasn't working right. To be safe, he pulled off the road and stopped in front of some old abandoned building. He got out of the car and opened the hood, started looking around for what might be wrong, and thought he smelled something hot. So, he took off his shirt and wrapped his hand in it before touching what he thought might have been warm. He instantly jerked back because of how hot the thing was. About this time, a hypo pulls up behind the car with its lights flashing. My friend takes the shirt off of his hand and puts it back on himself as the cop gets out of his car. I figure that the cop pulled up to see if he could help up out, but instead he just tells my friend to get back in the car. The cop asks for his license and proof of insurance (rarely is anybody asked for registration in Kansas). My friend had just gotten his car back from being fixed, and apparently some of his papers were missing. His dad had apparently moved it while the car was at his parents' house. About this time, the cop asks me for my ID as well, which I handed over. After about five minutes doing whatever it is takes five minutes in his cop car, he comes back over and gives me back my license. He asks my friend to step out of the car for a chat. Apparently, the cop told my friend that he thought we were both on drugs and wanted to search the car. After being given permission to do so, the cop decided against doing it. My friend also got chastized about having his shirt off. The cop just gets in his car and leaves, claiming he was just going to give a warning for reckless driving and speeding.
This is odd, considering that my friend was doing the speed limit and wasn't doing anything that could possibly be considered reckless. Heck, the cop took so long to even show up that there was no way he could have even seen us until after we'd already pulled over.
Thanks for wasting fifteen minutes, harassing us, making phony accusations, and not even bothering to see if you could fix the damn car, hypos. Protect and serve my ass.
