radeon 9500 pro problems?
« on: March 27, 2003 01:17 am CST »
Hey, i just got my radeon 9500 pro last night.. and everytime i run the disk, it installs.. till the end of the drivers.. and it causes a blue screen of death! anyone know what the problem could be?? anyone else have this problem?? oh.. and when it barely worked.. i was more laggy than with my 64mb radeon.. i thought it was supposed to be more smooth?? i guess that since evertime it cant install fully, it screws it up..

It could be that ATI sucks...

And when is the last time you formatted?

Don't listen to that fascist NVidia fan.

First, install Direct X 9.0a
Then download and install Catalyst 3.2

Make sure ATi TruForm is off.

Now you can enjoy Tribes at 1600x1200 with 6xAA 16AF with 60fps.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

I have a 9500 pro too, it didn't work for me at all...then i got a new computer.  I didn't have a big enough power supply nor did i have a good agp slot.  I'm still not really sure if the power supply was the reason it didn't work (the old one was a gateway p3 500) or what, but it doesn't matter now.

All you really need to do it have everything up to date, and if you already do, it could be a hardware conflict.  I do know that the card will run best if it has it's own IRQ address, but that's not exactly an obvious solution. :P

If nothing else call tech support, I've heard good things about ATI's tech support.

Here's how you can manually install your Radeon 9500.  If you have XP, just stick the card in without using the regular installation method found on the disk.  Instead, after inserterting the card, go to the device manager, find the card under display adapters, and click "update driver".  Then, you can search for that specific driver that is on the disk.  After that, just update the drivers found on ATI's website.

That method has worked for me several times in problems such as that (damn Westell wirespeed sometimes has to be plugged into usb port when I'm missing my ethernet cable, and the installation disk is made for 98/ME).

I have a question of my own.  I have Windows Update to automatically download on all 3 XP running comps.  Is it normal to see a "New updates are ready to install" popup almost every day?

*edit*
Ewww Zxqv8, you ran a 9500 on a P3 500?  What a waste.  Reminds me of when I installed a 32 MB ATI All in Wonder on my PII 350...  Some reason or another, the card overclocked itself, and I enjoy nice little lines running up and down the screen

You can turn Automatic Updates off by going into Control Panel, then System, then the Automatic Updates tab.

I like my Geforce 3 Ti500 just fine, even though the rest of my stats make it look sorry.  And it is, with Unreal II etc.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

You got Unreal II?  Does it run alright with a ti500?  I had my doubts about buying it.

Hmmm, nah... I was about to make an MS Paint...  It dont matter what time you bought your card at Razore, it depends on the card model.  If you and your friend both bought a car at the same time, same year make, but different car.  You buy a mustang, and he buys a geo.  Who bought the better car?
