Windows 7 RC?
« on: May 16, 2009 03:57 pm CDT »
Anyone try it yet?  I got the x64 version but I can't get it to install.  It complains about by bios not being ACPI compliant.  XP has no problems using ACPI.

Nope. If I get the new laptop that I'd like next week, I'll be giving it a try, though. Friend of mine loves it (and he's generally a heavy Linux guy). Good luck getting it working...

What hardware are you trying to install it on?
As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 rev.2
AMD x2 6000+

It's already at the latest bios update.  My bet is I will have wait for a new update or some way to turn off the acpi check in the 7 installer.

It has been running well on my new laptop for a few days now.  I'm liking it.

I just got it myself. It's smooth for the most part, but I hate the Vista-identical interface (never liked it to begin with). I'm still trying to make it look and feel like XP, but it's stable and it runs well (for now). However, I am running into a few compatibility issues with older games, specifically, Tribes and The Ur-Quan Masters. I haven't tried anything else though.

Also, my sound card won't work with 7 (Sound Blaster Live! 5.1). I had to download the drivers for my onboard sound, which is okay I guess...but it renders my Sound Card completely unused, and I can't use the software that came with it (such as the Recorder, etc). Oh well...

Most of my Linux friends also say that they really like 7, which surprised me, since some of them were formerly Microsoft blind haters, or so I thought.

The problem must have been fixed in the RC because I had it running for awhile with the evaluation version.  I like it compared to vista or xp.
