TRPG + Windows 7 = In-game cursor doesn't work!
« on: November 26, 2009 10:39 pm CST »
I just installed Windows 7, and so far everything is doing great...except Tribes. But honestly, I got further than I expected. Here's the issue...

I can run the game just fine, and even join the server and play (to an extent). What doesn't work is my ability to edit the game preferences and my inventory. The in-game cursor doesn't work, but I can still move around and aim by moving the mouse. Any idea what might be causing this?

*edit*
Seems like it may be a problem with 7 entirely. Something about OpenGL not being supported? I think? Has anyone else encountered this?

It's alright. I just reinstalled XP.

I think my extended family members are cursed. Seriously, collectively they are the Bermuda Triangle of life. Every time (and I mean every) time they come to visit, something breaks. It could be my car (it's happened more than once), it could be my computer (this is the second time now), or it could be something else. They don't even have to touch it! It just...breaks.

In this case, I woke up this morning and found that Win7 wasn't booting up. The computer was freezing right when the logo would come up. So I tried to reinstall it...installation froze. I tried installing XP...same deal. After about two hours of HDD swapping between computers and a wiped hard drive, my computer decided to work again. I just installed Windows XP and left it at that. Now everything is good.

Until Christmas. FML.

Eh? Did you install it from the Tribes_gsi.exe installer (which installed v1.8 I think), or are you running v1.0 from the disc?

Try the premade pack off our website (it's listed a few posts down on the front page of pcrpg.org).  Using Win7 x64, I think I recall it working for me.
As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I'll give that a shot this Winter when I reinstall Win7. I'm thinking of getting a new HDD anyway, so I'll probably partition some room off of that so I can dual boot.

FYI: Particle, you may want to change your signature....Rigel and Alpha Centauri are two very different stars, though A-Centauri is sometimes called Rigil Kantaurus (source: Wiki). However, I know for a fact that Rigel is a blue supergiant while Alpha Centauri is just a little bigger than our sun :P

**Apologies if I sounded like a dick. I'm taking an astronomy course this semester and I've spent the last 10 weeks studying the stars for my final...bleh...
