so many users only a few talk
« on: May 27, 2003 06:06 am CDT »
how come there are 316 users but i count only about 20 - 25 of them really say anything.  what's with that. are those names taking up resources on the system the forum is run off of? doubt it.

Well of course its taking up resources, just not enough to be of any concern.  There's over 5 1/2 pages of the member list of accounts that have 0 posts on them.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

I stared the server about two years ago this spring.  I've been programming since--well, I can't really remember.  It was some time around 10 or so.  Just remember that experience is more important than just about any diploma/degree.

Yes, but Corporate America believes otherwise, a big problem with this country.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

No, I'm serious.  In the programming field, if you have experience then you're better off than having a degree instead.

Well, maybe you misunderstood.  Think of someone that has a degree from MIT against someone that has been programming since he was a kid.  The company would no doubt choose the MIT graduate simply because he has a degree from MIT.

Not always so.  Companies that actually know what they're wanting in a programmer are likely to choose the experienced one over the other.  Let me put it this way:  if you never go to college and get a job programming right out of highschool, you can pull in close to $90k/year starting.
