As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Im going to network into my upstairs room, and I have a Westell Wirespeed ADSL modem. The modem has both Ethernet and USB connections to connect to your pc.

I currently have the modem connected to my comp through USB. Can I have it still plugged into my USB and have it bridged over my powerline ethernet at the same time?

If you are having trouble understanding what I mean, I can draw a diagram...

I doubt it Dar, why would you want USB anywho, it sucks for pings.

Here's what I would do:
Get a router of some kind that supports your ADSL (most likely PPPoE)
Hook the ADSL up to the router
Hook the Powerline adapter to the router
Hook your main computer to the router
Hook other computer to the Powerline adapter upstairs.

If you need any help setting up the network, I will help you.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

The reason that I use USB on this comp because I no longer give a malarkey about this comp because i (hopefully) will be getting a laptop for christmas.  I also do not want to buy a new router and ethernet for this comp.

Go the wireless route.  It only adds ~10ms to the ping and you get it everywhere.  Nothing hooked to your main comp and your laptop can use it while being mobile.

It would be a good choice if my room was anywhere near my computer. My computer is on one side of the house, and I live on the other side of the house above my garage. And there are lots of walls in between. Even if I got multiple access points to just mirror my connection around the house, that would cost a small fortune. And since my parents arent tech-savvy, they wouldnt appreciate all those access points across the house. Best choice for me is a powerline network.

Plus, my laptop wont be very mobile since the Dell SmartStep200n is more of a desktop replacement than a regular notebook.  It has a P4 2Ghz desktop processor in it, so its big and it weighs about 8 pounds.

My laptop is a 1.13GHz P3 and weighs about 7-8 pounds but it seems light to me.  I'd have a hard time deciding between a 2GHz P4 and the 1.13GHz P3 as it is.  The P4 would barely be faster.

I chose the P3 laptop for that reason.  Cheaper and faster than the P4 counterparts that the store offered.

Anyone want to do me a favor and send me a Computer Tower? It doesn't have to have anything in it. I just want to try and maybe build a computer for myself.. Just something to do. So if anyone has a spare one, that they wouldn't mind geting ride of, send it this way.

Would you mind getting a tower with a bullet hole in it? I'm about to shoot this damn computer. I should blame this on my dad. He hasnt had a job in 2 years, and my stepmom doesnt work, and my real mom just quit her job as a teacher and is now working (happily) at starbucks.

Good thing my grandparents are cool.

*edit*
They say this is going to be a tiiiiiiiiight budget christmas.  No malarkey sherlock.  Get a job.

Well, yeah.  But, you see, my parents are what I call "yokels".  My dad sees something that probably came out in 1992 and calls it "high-tech".  Lemme tell you, when I started teaching them how to use a computer 3 months ago, they didnt know what the hell a right-click was.

Hell, my dad fell asleep every time I tried to teach him as well.

My 2 year old sister is better at surfing the web than they are. SERIOUSLY!  She gets on by herself and turns on internet explorer and starts going to different sites.  On friday I left her on netscape.com, when I came back, she was somewhere at warnerbros watching loony toons web cartoons.
