Recording Industry Association of America if I am not mistaken.  They're the people who got Napster and Scour snarfed.  They tried to file against Shaman (the network that Morpheus and Kazaa use) but they weren't successful (YAY Internet!) so they're going to start filing against the people serving.  I believe one source said "the free ride is over" or something... yeah right.  They said that after Napster and after Scour, but every time there's a small gap of "quiet time" and another giant slowly emerges.  Don't count on much happening.  If they had written it into the agreement to use their networks, Shaman Networks could actually file against the RIAA instead of the other way around for using the network to deliberately seek out IP addresses.  Heh, now THAT would be funny.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Wednesday and Thursday was kind of a quiet time for me.  But then I realized that they said "hundreds", not "thousands", so getting caught would be a percent of a percent.

THink about it though..

They can't touch the network because it isn't hosted on american soil (napster was).

THe only thing they CAN do is get the major file sharers.. I'm talking people who have servers set up just for p2p. That is who they are targeting.

As for the people who download these files.. Well.. They can't really do anything to them.. mp3's are out, because I can name 10 groups off the top of my head who want people to download their songs.

Movies.. Movies aren't allways illegal either.. THinks work completely different in europe. Sometimes they release a low-end version to the public which prones them to buying the full thing (which I would do even if I had downloaded the movie).

Software.. Ahh yes.. Software pirating..
MS Visual Studio.. $3000. Photoshop 6...$400. PhotoShop  7...$700
You get the idea.. Software pirating has been going around since Bill Gates first did it to make windows.  THey are never going to stop it.. However, They can crack down on US pirating servers off of Kazaa.

nope, i don't know.  :)

and if they try to take down the bigger file sharing people like you say ozzy, i know of about 6 colleges that will get tagged massively for it because they have computers and servers loaded down the mp3s and movies from the students.

eViL, you were probably the coolest but most misunderstood person in this community.. maybe the rest will find out how cool of a person you are some day, and don't get too mad at the people who dont understand you.. its their loss in the end.

They can't stop it. It's impossible. I think I'm the p2p trend setter though, people always seem to use what I'm using like 2 months after I find it. =\

I was talking to a mac addict a month ago, and showed her photoshop on my pc.  She asked how I found the money to get it.  I laughed in her face.  She was shocked when I showed her what I did.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).
