Guys, I think it's finally going to happen. PCRPG will require a small download, available at
http://www.pcrpg.org. Now, this isn't going to happen right away, but I've been weighing the benefits against the negative aspects and have come to the conclusion it is time. For the newbies, a readily available link will be available on the server loading screen, server information, and on the front of the
http://www.pcrpg.org website.
What this download will entail is a new inventory GUI and some other scripts. Some new map models are likely as well. We should have a new model for Centuria and maybe Gran'Kar, along with other misc small prefabs to help out the aging TRPG mod. What it is really boiling down to is this: TRPG is getting way too damn old and I'm tired of not being able to do anything for fear of a download.
This sort of update is probably at LEAST two weeks away though (I'll start parading the message in-game) to allow for preperation of mod and clients. The launch of my re-coded website should mark a point of closure to the non-download version of PCRPG. We've come a long way without making any sort of required download... now lets take the next step.
What I am asking from you forum junkies that play is simple. I'd like for you all to spread word that the server will require a DL, but no earlier than on my birthday--August 1st. Please be advised.
To quell problems before they start, I'll make a short list of answers to possible questions.
-The download will be small
-The download will be clearly marked and easily available--both in-game and out
-These changes will occur no earlier than August 1st
-There will be absolutely NO tampering with characters
-There will not be a server clear when the update occurs
-The new website will look virtually the same, short of new navigation buttons
-The website will (longer-run) include character interaction features*
-The launch of the new website does not mark the exact date of the required DL (meaning if the site launched tomorrow, it does not mean the update is required as of tomorrow)
-There will be much more diversity of items**
-There will be new map prefabs (a few)
-Much of the code will let PCRPG run faster than before**
*Games, etc that may reward in-game prizes such as SP, EXP, or levels
**You can thank Deus for coding the new inventory system and re-coding many of the existing lag-ass functions in TRPG.
Let's give him a hand.
Ack, I meant:
