GE is picking your flesh ice :-p and you're playing into it ;-)

Anyway........  there has been talk among mod makes for a long time about simple ways to crash tribes just on connecting to them, and not even doing that much to them, as well as talk of actually getting together and doing that to a bunch of servers... but that was over a year a go.  Maybe some one finally got bored enough one day at school and ran whatevr script does this thing while they were bored?  :-p  I knew jerks in high school that would crash servers they didn't like using our dual t1 line... of course they'd also crash porn sites, spam sites, and other smaller sites.  That was of course back before the interent had any security and nobody even had heard of DSL or Cable yet. :-p  ahh... the good old days?

I'm guessing that it has more to do with the Master Server as opposed to all of these servers having synchronized downtimes.

You can connect to servers in your list without the master servers. The master server is only needed in order to find new servers. You're not routed through the master server while playing Tribes are you, of course not.

Guys, the master server was reset yesterday by Sierra (first manual reset in a while), which is why the servers were acting funny, but it's working perfectly for me!

Duh >_<

No master server won't make game server crash.  However, I do think you are on the right track.  I'm guessing that if I took my server off the master list, you all could use gamespy or the PCRPG launcher to join, and they wouldn't have a way to target (since it is bulk attacking).  It just wouldn't be listed on the master server.

Do you guys want to try this?  If it's on your favorites list, you have gamespy, or the PCRPG Launcher, you'll still be able to get in.

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

If you're visiting after a long hiatus and have forgotten your password, try emailing me via the support form at http://www.pcrpg.org.

If your character is from after the 2004 clear but appears to have been deleted or reset, chances are it was caught in one of the inactive account purges over the years.  Backups were made before such events, so try the support form.

Well, it would be a stagnant private community, but I would agree 100%.  It would keep any new player from comming in though.

Gotta love SBC with their 6Mbps tier for 45$
(Yes, on their site it only shows 3Mbps, but it is actually 6Mbps, I would know :)).

POPS?

:-D  If you reallly want to.

hmmmm..... I was going to mention that the mater server plays no roll in the connection to game servers other than as a listing device.  If you know the IP, and have a program that can launch-connect Tribes to that IP, then yes indeed you can play with out the master lists.

Ahhh weelll.... I hope this insanity stopps soon!
