UAW-GM
« on: October 12, 2003 11:22 am CDT »
Well, I went to the UAW-GM Quality 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Race in charlotte yesterday, and I'm going to give you a bit of a review.

To begin, I want to tell you some things that I don't like. I don't like old drunk people. Now there are some exceptions, but for the most part, I don't like old drunk rednecks. Now, to move on.

I got there at 5 to see 3 doors down (the race started later on, it was a night race) and I was pretty bored until 3DD came on. They played well--they were better than I expected! That was cool, until they stopped playing. After that, there was a period of sheer boredom and annoyance until the race started. I went to my seat, with a few of my friends, which was a good ways away from the concert stage. I have NEVER in my life seen so many dirty looks and messed up teeth in my life.

We finally make it to our seats, and sit down. We sat there for like an hour before the national anthem started. This next part was the highlight of the night for me. About half way through the national anthem, which was sung by Monica, 4 F-16 jet fighters did a fly by really low over the stadium. Now I don't know if you know, but I absolutely love fighter jets.. the site of them is so amazing, and these things were CLOSE. As soon as they got over the stadium, they hit their afterburners so the flames from their engine were like 6 feet long.. deep blue flames.. it was almost an orgasmic experience. I felt so deeply amazed when they flew over. They flew over once more before the race started, so it was cool.

After this, the race began and let me tell you something--on TV, nascars seem like  sport.. those cars go a hell of alot faster than it looks! We were standing next to the track, and when like 4 of them went by, the wind from the track could literally blow you over.. it rocked =)

I don't see how anyone couldn't like those jets..  they were so awesome!  They were going kinda slow so you could see them perfectly, gliding across the sky..  to me, that is the definition of elite.

You need to move down here! We have 3 AF bases around here and I see fighter jets every day. Used to excite me but now I'm so used to it. But it's still cool to watch them practice maneuvers, especially when they do it over the ocean.

Yeah! So can you give me directions to just south of crazy?  ;)

Anyway, you'd like the airshows up here (assuming you don't have them). The 'Snowbirds' are modified fighter jets that perform every year.

You should have come visited me LW.

Today I went up to the mall by the racetrack (Concord mills mall) to buy DDR and me and my friend had to deal with all the traffic of people leaving the track. There were RV's as far as the eye could see.

I don't see how driving hundreds of times around an oval can be exciting at all, would someone care to explain? I could only imagine the occasional crash as being entertaining (I'm that evil kind of person).

Now racing formula 1 cars thru a north mediterranean city in a sanctioned race is something I would enjoy watching... There you actually have a challenging course, not rush hour at 200+ mph. Speaking of rush hour, why not introduce a road rage element into Nascar? It's american enough!

If you want the road rage stuff, you need to go see crunch racing, or whatever its called, where they just run cars into each other.

Demolition derby ya nub!

Yeah, I went to go buy Dance dance revolution. (Shame on me for being such a dork) It's strangely addicting though, especially when you're at the mall.. your spare change just seems to disapear.  :)

So I figured I'd buy it.

By the way LW.. where are you going to see 311? I've always wanted to see them in concert.
