Enhibited Beneficial Spells thread:
« on: October 13, 2003 12:37 am CDT »
Read first:
I have been thinking for a while that we should add new meaning to the Level and RL system.  For example; there is a RL restriction on a few of the neutral spells and some healing spells.  If your character is a mage-type character, leveling up your neutral casting can be a pain or just be a waste of time (no immediate benefits in training of the ncasting.)  So, I propose that we add RL or Level locked casting abilities which a player can become adept at or lose use for based on a higher Level or RL, similar to the addition of new spell types based on your level and mana in D&D style games, but with a loss of effeciveness of the use of low level spells like the one in my following example.

Even if none of this is implemented, let's not stop ideas before they start by saying "that's not for particles mod."  We don't know what he will think or if it's worth the time, but let's be constructive in this effort.  If you don't have anything to post, then don't post.  Also; spells should have some sort of effectiveness or restriction that are enhibited thought also beneficial, that is to say don't post a spell that would "give sp 100" to the player when they cast it on an uber with out any side effects.

That being said, we should get a list going of spells that would benefit players at different Levels and RL's in different ways.

I'll follow this format for posting spells and their effects:
Title-
N-
E-
LL-
UL-
TC-
TD-
E1-
E2-
E3-
TL-
FE-
SN-

Title- just a title for your idea, not the name.
N-needs for spell use
E-some explaining
LL-lower limit
UL-upper limit
TC-time to cast
TD-time duration (of actual visual spell)
E1-effect(s)
E2-effect(s)
E3-effect(s)
E4-effect(s)
TL-technical look of the spell (what it looks like when it's cast... ie; does it explode like a disk while shooting quickly upward like fireworks, does it float around like a bubble looking like the plasma-balls from tribes or what?)
FE-any further explaining.
SN-Spell Name

Title- Spell(s) for Low Levels in Ncasting
N- 2-3 stationary townsfolk bots, character capable of casting neutral 0 spells.
E- These bots can be entertained by this magic spell/trick, and the player is awarded the effects from the spell based on the bots response.
LL- 0 Ncasting ability, level 1, RL 0.
UL- Loses effectiveness after level 20, no RL limits.
TC- 1 second.
TD- 2 seconds.
E1- Bots play the "whoohoo" or "arrrg" sounds from tribes, based on the last time the character cast the spell for them.  (whoohoo being appreciation and arrg being annoyance)
E2- Bots awards a few coins or no coins based on how much the player has shown them that spell, and the players level.
E3- Player's alignment changes based on the spells positive or negative effects.  ie; if the bots are tired of seeing the same spell (cast it in their presence more than 10 times in an hour, they only want to see it once every 360 seconds) they will become annoyed and this will start subtracting points from the players alignment until the player reaches a neutral state (whatever the upper limit of the neutral range on alignment is, if alignment is enstated.)
E4- The bots award 10 sp in Ncasting when they are pleased and don't give any when displeased.
TL- The wave-impact shockwave from tibes is used in a spawnprojectile which floats up for about half a second as it dissipates.  These appear one after an other in the same spot for 2 seconds.
FE- The idea behind this spell is that the player will be able to level up their Ncasting to a usable range and also have their "training" of the ncasting be null, due to the spell not giving them any Ncasting unless being used to entertain bots.  They will be deterred from leaving their casters going in town because of the alignemnt effects.  This spell cannot be cast by evil aligned players.  This spell would also not need to be cast often, so a quick key wouldn't need be assigned.
SN- ShimmerDelight

I like your idea, but to be able to interact with the actual townbot would require a complete rebuild of the townbots / merchants / banker setup.

Right now, they are just map markers, and can't do anything but sit there and be holograms.
