Ozzy Needs Your Help
« on: October 17, 2003 11:37 pm CDT »
From Ozzy:

Ok.. Here is the deal plain and simple.. Me and my brother are building a LAN/Internet Cafe. It will have starting 50 "nodes". I need your help with prices for memberships.. Costs per hour.. ect.. Basicly.. I want 3 different memberships.

#1 is the basic membership.. It has a few hours of free gaming/internet access. It also has a little discount after you use up the free time.

#2 is a premium membership.. It has more free hours, and a bigger discount.

#3 is a clan/event membership.. Basicly you need this to get into special events. Or clan matches. There will be another fee upon entry to the event. You also get a discount, but i'm not sure for free hours.

Basicly there will be an hourly fee for the station. Then there will be a fee on top of that for internet access.

I need your help as fellow gamers to help me come up with some prices/packages that gamers would like. Remember, it is a business, so be mature about your ideas. They can't get in for free. There is no min or max on the hours or prices. I just need your help on determining what would be good for the public, and money making on top of that.

Whats in it for you?

The people who give the most mature input would get free memberships if you decide to come down in Florida and play. You would also get the chance of meeting the Prince of Darkness.

What do you mean by basic membership? Like buying a ticket and going in the cafe to play for a couple of hours?

It would be a year membership..

In otherwords you put more money up front, but save in the long run.

What about monthly memberships for people who wouldn't go as much?

I'm sure some people would want to come in and check it out before paying the full year dues.

This is what the discussion is for..

I was thinking of giving an hour of play free for new people, and if they bring a new person in they get an hour for free ect.

Sounds awesome, next time I go to Florida.. I'll be sure to stop by.

As for the help with costs of memberships, and costs per hour I can't help you much there; I've never been to a LAN/Internet Cafe. (I don't know of any around Charlotte NC)

Well.. Basicly it would be what you would be willing to pay..

For example..

For a node rental, it would be around $7.50 an hour. For internet access on top of that. $2.50 per hour.

I think that system you are trying to start up isnt gonna work, ozzy, cause people would just take advantage of that and invite friends who'd come in once and use their hours, then never come back, thus you make no $$$.

Cybernet, the leading LAN place in memphis, has this:

By playing that the place, you already become a member.  You give them a username you like, and they give you a password, put on a card.  You login, and a counter counts the minutes you have played and calculates your total.  Bawls is $2.  Here's the money stuff:

$4.00 an hour for LAN gaming and internet access (full T1 line)
$3.00 an hour for the same when you become a Gold member  ($50 a year to be a Gold Member)
$20.00 for an entire night (11PM to as long as you can stay awake in the AM hours)

Events and the like are not reserved.  It is first come first serve, and prices vary for the events.

Cybernet is very popular in memphis.  Last time I went there, I had 10 of my buddies already there, all the PC's were filled up, and the 3 HDTV's w/ Xbox's on them playing halo were filled, and there were girls outside drinking bawls and asking me to ride with them in their cars  8)
