I keep getting loads of pop up ads.. like one every 10 minutes, even when I don't have Internet Explorer open..

Can someone subscribe a free popup blocker?

Do you use XP or windows 2000?

If so, it is the "messenger service" that is catching those pop-ups every so often.  I posted a way to get rid of them in another forum, here is the link:

http://www.panicware.com has a good popup blocker when it comes to IE

As a point of history:  Our last server clear was on September 27, 2004.  That is 4963 days ago (13.6 years) as of today.

I'm wary of pop-up killers for IE--last time I got one, it killed like a ton of pictures and stuff for websites (which nowadays sucks because most are very image-driven).

Does that one block things that don't need to be blocked, or does it actually work well?

It isn't like webwasher.  Its sole purpose is the blocking of IE windows, and has surprisingly good accuracy.  Just hold down control when you want a window to pop up (say Fileplanet) and then release after it pops up.

Ok, I'm still getting a hellouva lot of popups when IE is CLOSED, but not open.. hmm..

This problem just started happening today..

You, sir, have adware. I feel for you.

There's a few things you can do. If you're lazy, and/or have no know-how, you can download an adware remover like Spybot. I, however, find those programs more annoying than the adware itself. So, if you're like me and you don't like that option, you can scour your registry for the adware and remove it. The most popular/frequently appearing adware are Gator (GMT or GT) and Wildtangent (WT or WildT). Search your registry and/or your C: for signs of these evil, evil little programs. If and when you find them, you know what to do. DELETED!!

Let me guess Jonah, you have some kind of Weather program you downloaded that tells you your local weather?

I remember downloading one of those, and it completely filled my computer with pop-ups.
