I don't understand why everyone is crazy about this movie. Compared to the first and Reloaded, it had nothing. Nothing ground-breaking in story. The fights were very few, and were slow-moving and boring anyways. And to top it off, the movie offered nothing in the way of closure or finality. (By the way, you might not want to read what I have to say if you haven't seen Revolutions yet.)
The first Matrix was crazy. Everyone asking the question, "what if?". The simple idea that maybe we're not livng here blew everyone's mind. It was new, fresh, and exciting. Reloaded didn't have as much as an impact, but it still introduced a lot of new ideas; such as Zion being a cycle, Smith being reborn and able to duplicate, and Neo having powers outside of the Matrix, to name a few. But Revolutions had no new mind-blowing story elements, at all.
Most of the movie was set outside of the Matrix. The chunk of it was the equivalent of, "the sky is falling! The sky is falling!". Blah blah, go find the Logos. The machines are coming. Blah blah, found the Logos, send it to the city. Speaking of which, what possible use could machines have for a freaking city!? What, are they getting lonely? It didn't even seem industrial. It just appeared to be a large quantity of machines roaming about.
And now, the reason why I like the Matrix series: the fighting. And the reason why I disliked Revolutions: the lack of fighting. Think about it. There were two Matrix fights in the movie. Just two. Seraph, Trinity, and Morpheus with the strange stand-on-the-wall guys, was the first. Most of this fight was duck and cover anyway, so it was boring to watch. The second fight was the Neo/Smith fight. Now this had some promise. Too bad you couldn't see it for the rain and lightning. The most exciitng part was inside the building, for about ten seconds. The rest of the fight was circling around, charging at each, making some explosion, then repeating. Very disappointing fighting in this movie. Think about Reloaded. You had the Vampires, multiple times. The largescale Neo/Smith fight. Neo/Seraph. The crew versus all the medieval weapon weilding dudes. Too many fights to count.
And last, finality. What the hell? Did anything happen in this movie? Both Zion and the machines still exist. They mention 'peace', but they seem to have forgotten the myriad humans hooked up to the Matrix; the whole point of the first movie. Freeing them. Oh wait, they have a "choice," according to the architect. Can you see that? "Yes, knowing that I'm going to live my life supplying energy to machines, living in a gel globule all of my life. I love it." We're back to where we were before the first Matrix movie. The machines and humans are still opposed, there's still hostility, there's still humans hooked up, there's no One, and you can bet that they're still going to be trying to free humans. *yawn*
Bad movie, I say. Bad story, bad fight scenes (or lack thereof), and terrible closure.
