I heard that thing spossed to play X-Box Games Playstaion 2 Games PS1 Games The Works.

why dont you play all these games on the PS2 and Xbox and PC like they were designed to be played on. The PS2 has not even been designed yet, in fact it's not even going to be as good as they 1st thought. I'm not even going to waste my time adding my vote.

Sorry, but you are sadly mistaken.  PS3 will definately not play Xbox games since that would cause a big legal fiasco.

Plus, I think backwards compatibility is a waste of technology.

PS3 Chip Trials Set To Begin

Thanks to GamePro for their news story regarding Toshiba and Sony's imminent trial production of semiconductor chips that will be the precursor to the Cell chip that's expected to be used in the PlayStation 3. According to the article, "...the trial production of sample chips using the 65-nanometer (one nanometer is a billionth of a meter) technology will begin in 2004... [but] commercial production is not expected to begin until the first half of Toshiba's 2005 fiscal year, which is from April to 2005." Gamesindustry.biz notes that this is "...just about in time to supply components for Sony's PlayStation 3 launch at the end of 2005, if that is indeed the plan."


^^ The PS3 wont even be considered to ship until the end of 2005, and I doubt they will even make that deadline (hell, the PS2 was first slated to be released in '98 ).  We got quite awhile to go.  I suspect that Microsoft is keeping quiet about the technology they will be using in Xbox 2.0.  Should be very suprising to see what they reveal.

Anyway, just sit tight and play those great new games that have been released (and will soon be released).  You got quite a wait.

If they can make a system backwards compatible, why not? For the PS2 it promoted customer loyalty for owners of Playstation games that were deciding on what next generation console they were going to get.

How about that they could have spent time and funds elsewhere, perhaps on the hardware to improve graphic quality, or perhaps on the overall design of the system (I find the PS2 to be the ugliest console out there).

i find the XBox bad because its soo dam heavy. I wouldn't believe it when i walked out of the shop with it, it's heavier than 2 PS2's!
