Hmm... I'll give it a whirl. That'll have to be one fat christmas bag to cover that shield though.

edit:
Done. How's it look? You know you love the characteristic green mitten.

Kenshin was just kiddin', you know.

what he said..

and I don't get owned often... and quite franky the only times im totally out dueled is when I DO get whored or sniped... so meh..

ive dueled L. Spiro.. killed him a few times... called me names for using mines... aka the throw scripts(quite ironic if ya ask me)... also watched him get owned by a shield mofo... I just thought he was another arena newb who complained about mine disking...

anyone else play at 120 fov... ? :P

I use 115 Fov. I went from 90 (newbie) to 110, to 120 and to 115. But i havent played tribes in like a year and only opened it a couple times.

The issue of "owning" on duel servers is a bit touchy. Some people believe that winning is what determines whos better, although it does, it its also dependant on how you duel aswell. It also depends what you play, i play HO (heavy offense) on CTF, so there really is no point for me to be a great dueler when all i do is rape, clear, and cluster. Natrualy, a LD (light defense) player would own me in duel since they are more acustomed to it and need to be good at it.

There are a couple things i will not do, nor stand for on a duel server. They are kamikazi mine discing, cg whores, shielding, and sniping.

And about mine discing. It all depends how you do it. If you go for ranged mine discs then its fine. Things like a 15+ foot MA MD take skill, and i would never complain if someone killed me in that way. But if they sit and hover waiting for me to land and mine disc, or go for almost point black mine discs that would normaly kill them if it wasnt on duel mod, then i get a bit pissed.

Good way to shut down the hover mine discsers is just to shoot em before they shoot, so they kill themseves and you just say "Mines have been cleared." "Thanks." And they usualy will get the hint and stop.  :P

Those kamikazi mine discers cant really be helped, u just gotta keep a range between yourself and them so they cant do it without killing themself before you.

if u get mine disked... u deserved it plain and simple... u shouldn't be getting so badly out flown .. that they can mine disk you .. if you're falling and they're above u ... uve probably already lost wheather they mine disk u or not.. depending on their talent and taste for spam..

I dunno, i just recall i used to do that when i was somewhat of an average player and people unsavory womaned about it. Later after competing on TWL duel ladder and dueling dayly for practice, i realized it was just a newbie cheap desperation tactic to go for those kinds of mine discs.

I personaly dont go for the all out win. I like to kill people with style and tend to avoid anything considered gay. I could get my ass beat down constantly by some guy, and not be impressed. Yet beat a differnt guy down, and be impressed with his skill. Simple things such as going for MA's instead of waiting for every ground shot. Going for MA grens, MA MD's, all round putting his skill to the test. Thats what impresses me. Getting point blank mine disced and losing a duel, does not impress me.

Wellll.......  running the game as a terminal on a server based network with terminal based inputs... COULD evade cheating, BUT, the damn server to run the thing would have to be amazingly fast and stable, not to mention that the terminals would have to have some kind of server connection type that would disallow spoofing your way on with a terminal emulator (if such a thing existed.)
I don't know... there are many ways to prevent cheating but most of them involve some kind of big brother system or remote access. ;-p
Kinda sucky.  More counter-measures = more lag times.

Arg!

Also;
What is the FOV ye speak of?  I may just not know the acronym.

I use duel servers as a way of practicing for CTF. And in CTF, nobody cares if you can kill with style. All that matters is how fast you can kill.

I played CTF to practice for CTF  :? )

And yes, FoV is field of view/field of vision. I used to paly w/ 110 FoV on T2 when i played. I use 110 FoV on XMP aswell, but it seems to affect the fog view distance wich i find kinda odd and seems like an easy way to make a no fog cheat out of.

I play on the lowest graphics settings... damn computer.. playing at 120 fov.. has totally thrown my long distance nades off.. but the speed up the fov seems to give u .. makes disking all too easy.. I realize it doesn't actually speed u up.. just makes it seem that way ..
