What in the WORLD??
« on: April 15, 2004 06:04 pm CDT »
What If I told you there was a game..

A first person shooting game.
That had better graphics than halo.
A game which is addictive.
A game that is only 96kb in file size.

Thats right, this game has graphics that require a high end computer. The requirements for the game are:

- A 1.5GHz Pentium3/Athlon or faster.
- 512MB of RAM (or more)
- A Geforce4Ti (or higher) or ATI Radeon8500 (or higher) graphics card
supporting pixel shaders 1.3, preferably with 128MB or more of VRAM.
- Some kind of sound hardware
- DirectX 9.0b

The whole entire game is 96kb. Dont ask me how its possible..just play and see. The game is in beta testing right now.. its kinda buggy, but its playable.

I mention again, the graphics in this game are really really good. I will post some screenies. Make sure you have your AA on low unless you have a really good Computer or else you will lag. Thats how good the GFX are..

There's nothing ever wrong but nothing's ever right
Such a cruel contradiction

Heh, somebody around here reads slashdot :-P

Dont you love it?  I love those farb rausche guys!

Its possible because the code takes the indevidual steps to compress and render those textures, music, etc.

Just be sure to turn off AA, or the game will run horribly.

Er..Condition Zero is worthless unless you take the models from deleted scenes and put em in cz. It works perfectly, and looks fawkin awesome.

That's just at the beginning, darwin--mine was really dark and funky looking but it went to normal when I started a game.  768 megs of ram, and a Radeon 9800XT 256 and it still runs a little slow with max AA..  that's a very very graphics intensive game, but it looks so freakin awesome!

I have not seen a thing about this, but I was theorizing in the smallness of games in years past and how come they keep making them bigger and had stopped focusing on compression to achieve greatness in distribution, installation and play.  Old games used to be like that......

Of course, some one could blame the bigger and bigger game files sizes on the game companies trying to prevent the warezing of their games.  If I remember right, orriginally game companies just tossed in HUGE video files at the end of every level or in the beginning of the game... so warez would be harder to do (on the 1200 modems!)  Once they realized that warez people would just write a patch to patchout the videos, then it switched to big ass file sizes so transfer is slowed even more, and it is made more difficult to warez it apart.

Of course (again) this is allways worked around, so this small install size kicks ass.  period.  It would be nice if every company did this.
