ISearch ToolBar
« on: May 4, 2004 08:42 pm CDT »
Ok, I've tried Adware, Spybot, searching for its program files, MSconfig, and IE options to remove it, so far nothing works. Got any ideas?

You can remove it by right-clicking on your toolbar. As far as deleting the program, I couldn't tell you for sure without taking a look around, but try the following places.

    * Program Files
    * Program Files\Common Files
    * Windows\Temp
    * Windows\System

I'm having problems with stupid spyware search bars too..

You can't manually delete them because windows has it running and says "Write protected"

So you'll have go into msconfig.. go into selective start-up and uncheck it so that it doesn't run on start-up. Then delete that sorry SOB.

Haven't found anything in MSconfig, that I don't know or have a good idea what it does (Most of the ones I'm not sure on, claim Microsoft Company affiliation.)
And as for turning the little bugger off...

Has anyone had this toolbar problem before? And now what its called, I havent found anything in Programs, Common Files, Temp, or Windows/System.

Thanks for trying though.  :wink:

If all else fails, just totally clear out both Common Files and Temp. Chances are, it's in there, and nothing in those folders should be crucial to any program you chose to install.

Learn how to read..

Doesn't anyone use MS-DOS to fix windows problems anymore?

I would tell you to check your registry, but you probably wouldn't know what to look for and screw something up (no offense).

Aye Hersh!

Hmm... Registry Editing is a way to go... but you should become farmilliar with a non-boofed registry before attempting to even view or edit a boofed one...

DO you have registry experience?

If you do... you should go to "run" in the start menu and then "regedit.exe" in to the command box.

It opens up a program that displays the contents of your windows system registry.

BE VERY CAREFULL while editing anything in there.  If you are unsire if part of the registry is not to be deleted, then make sure you select that part and choose under the "Registry" menu "Export Registry File" and save it some place where you can easily find and double-click it later (to restore it).

I suggest not removing more than 1 type of regitry entry at a time.. ie; if you have installed the Google toolbar, there will be several "Google" registry entries in serveral places (all in folders called "software")  check all the sub-follder icons of the Google icon and then once you have determined them to be the same, Export & then '86 'em.

If your computer gets whacked it's not my fault.  This is a warning to not mess with the registry unless you can afford to possibly thrash your OS and possibly require a re-install, reg-repair, or format.

Goodluck, and be VERY CAREFULL.

Never click Yes on anything that asks you "Do you want to install and run spyware_omgcool_calendar_specialoffers.exe after viewing our licence agreement?", keep your MSIE up to date at Windows Update... or even consider using another browser that's less vulnerable to these types of things, like Mozilla Firefox
