Popup malarkey
« on: June 8, 2004 03:17 pm CDT »
Ok, so every few minutes I'll get one of these:

Or something similar to that.

I wont even have Internet Explorer open, and this is getting really annoying while playing CS.

I've run adaware (updated) and SpyBot about 20 times each. It hasn't gotten rid of the problem.

Anybody know a way to stop them?

Goto google.com and get the new google bar.  It has popup blocking capabilities.

I kissed a drunk girl on the lips.
This post, by its very length, defends itself against the risk of being read.

Well Gnight I see you updated your browser to MSIE 6 recently, that's a good start... try Ad-Aware

It's funny how gnight can have all of these problems and then argue with me about Taurik's signature not being what it is.

Just because spybot or ad-aware doesn't pick up anything doesn't mean you don't have spyware.

You should check all currently running processes. Check the run folder in your registry and check msconfig.

if push comes to shove, if you seriously know what you are doing, search through all files in your windows folder and anything that shouldn't be there or looks like it doesn't belong.  and i say this with a huge truckload of caution, do not attempt this if you are a nub with no experience with windows.

this has always worked for me.

Well, I updated spybot and adaware, and ran those both yesterday (because I had a malarkeyload of stuff that just got on my comp somehow) and now it's all gone.

Make sure if spybot or adaware says that it couldn't delete some stuff because it was currently in use, you click yes to let it run on the next startup.  Then, restart right after that..  existing spyware and stuff has the ability to load more when you go to certain sites, so you want to get rid of all of it at once.
